Moviegoers at multiplexes everywhere will soon find out if Derek Jeter(notes) can still act to his left.
In case you didn't recognize the vagrant with the stringy hair and ratty coat in the photograph above, it's the Yankees captain engaging Mark Wahlberg on the set of "The Other Guys." It's the latest epic from Will Ferrell and Adam McKay — the duo that also made "Anchorman," Talladega Nights" and "Step Brothers."
Fresh off the Yankees' World Series victory, Jeter and company shot the scene last week at Nathan's Famous hot dog stand at Coney Island. Jeter plays an aging version of himself years after Wahlberg's character, a police officer named Brock Landers, shoots him in the leg and forces him into a life on the streets. That's what the stories on MLB.com and the New York Post say, anyway, so let's go with it. (The Post also has an extensive album of photos from Jeter's shoot, in case you want more ... and you probably do.)
The role should be perfect for Jeter, who has been pretending to be a great shortstop for years.
Oh, I'm totally kidding.
Seriously, Jeter has many acting credits under his belt; he's hosted Saturday Night Live (and will do so again on Dec. 19), he appeared in "Anger Management" with Jack Nicholson and Adam Sandler, he has read top 10 lists on "Late Night with David Letterman" at least five times and he made a guest appearance on "Seinfeld" that was quite memorable.
And in Jeter's classic Visa commercial with George Steinbrenner — well, The Boss stole the show — but Jeter acted capably.
This time, Jeter is going to have to carry his scene with Wahlberg, who has struggled to act his way out of conversations with farm animals.
But if anyone is up to making his teammates better, it's the Captain.
Coming soon to a theater near you!

What kind of remark is that? How many rings do you have? How many years have you been in the majors.? How many hits do you have compared to Lou Gehrig? How much money do you make playing for the Yankees?
David Brown, what an assinine remark to make. No wonder you are on Yahoo.

Did you read after "The role should be perfect for Jeter, who has been pretending to be a great shortstop for years."
No, seriously...did you? Because it then reads "Oh, I'm totally kidding." I'm not kidding, Mike B, it actually reads "Oh, I'm totally kidding." READ the entire article and you'll actually see it.
Maybe you should loosen the knot a little there, Sparky. Your comment was a tad bit over-reactive, don't you think?
