Attention to all those expecting children in the Bay Area next month: The arrival of your tiny Tims and baby Busters could bring an even bigger bundle of Giants-related joy.
In a unique contest inspired by the passion that only the first World Series title in city history can spark, CSN Bay Area plans to award the title of "World Championship Baby" to the first baby born after 7:54 p.m. PT on Aug. 1. That would be exactly nine months to the day that the San Francisco Giants won the 2010 World Series, causing the franchise to shed its championship drought burden while its fans, uh, shed their clothes.
Hopeful parents must register their pregnancy with the cable network and then I guess do whatever it is you do to ensure the baby arrives at a championship time.
If you think you've got a World Championship bun in the oven, let us know. Register by 7/31 for your chance to win an announcement in the paper, a secured brick at AT&T Park with your World Champion baby's name, a gift card for $2,010, and an official certificate signed by the Giants.
Gotta hand it to the marketing wizards that came up with this one. It's a unique contest, one that channels both the feel-good emotions of a World Series title and squiggly babies in widdle Giants jerseys. And if they slap a mini-Brian Wilson(notes) beard on the first kid out? Well, the Internet's cute meter may explode upon the first Twitpic.
