Most weekday evenings, Big League Stew looks at five approaching games worth monitoring. As they occur, feel free to
discuss the night's happenings with other Stewies in the comment
section below.
Brewers at Cubs, 8:05 ET Last July, Chicago headed to "Wrigley Field North" and swept four games from a Brewers team that was still high off the fresh fumes of trading for C.C. Sabathia(notes) and thinking of taking over first place in the NL Central.
Tonight, Milwaukee gets the chance for revenge as the Cubs — still high off the fumes of acquiring someone named Jeff Baker today — welcomes the Crew to "Miller Park South" for the holiday weekend.
Seth McClung(notes) and Ryan Dempster(notes) light the ceremonial bottle rockets in a series that's sure to produce lots of fireworks.
Mariners at Yankees, 7:05 The Janquis are going for eight straight win, but a sweep-sealing victory over the M's wouldn't set any records because Derek and Co. won nine in a row from May 13 to May 21.
Also, a word to the wise if you're a Yankees blogger and you see Ken Griffey go deep again tonight: For the love of Babe, don't blog about it!
Tough crowd, those Yankee fans.
White Sox at Royals, 8:10 You can write critical things about Kansas City's players, coaches, scouts, managers, announcers, hot dog guys and probably even George "The Sodfather" Toma. But if you're a displaced blogger and write one bad thing about the Royals medical staff? Well, then may Willie Wilson have mercy on your soul.
Phillies at Braves, 7:10 I can't believe I'm saying this, but Javier Vazquez(notes) would be a great fit in Philadelphia right now (you know, if it weren't for the fact that Atlanta would never trade him to a division rival). As a loyal Stewie said earlier this week, Vazquez might be having the best 5-7 season ever. Over his last seven starts, he's 1-4 with a 2.61 ERA. Wanna know how many runs he's had to work with over that span? Nine. Nine!
Giants at Cardinals, 7:05 It's Zito time? Not if Albert Pujols(notes) has anything to say about it. El Hombre is 5-for-9 with two homers and eight RBIs in his career off Barry Zito(notes).
