Because it wouldn't be a baseball season without the first celebrity butchering of "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" at Wrigley Field, allow me to redirect you toward video of Denise Richards singing the staple during last Friday's game like she was taught how to sing by that wayward cat that disrupted a Cubs game last month.
Predictably, Richards' rendition has the baseball blogosphere buzzing, though I can't imagine why anyone is shocked that one of the most Razzie-worthy actresses in recent memory (Christmas Jones, anyone?) can't carry a tune. The Downers Grove, Ill., native only appears on things like "Dancing With The Stars" and in the Cubs' broadcast booth because she's a former model who is still amazingly good looking, not because she actually knows how to sing or dance. (Really, I was under the impression that we were all OK with this arrangement.)
Also, how can you be against any public relations stunt that puts Cubs legend Ron Santo in the same room as Richards and allows for pictures like this one to be taken? I say the Cubs should bring back Ms. Carmen Ibanez for an encore as soon as possible, because we've already survived one and it's not like another performance would bring the apocalypse to Wrigley Field. (Well at least I don't think it would.)
But, seriously, here's a big BLS head nod to Ms. Richards for having the courage to sing in front of 40,000 people — "It was horrifying," she told the Palm Beach Post over the weekend — and for showing up in the first place. She was at Wrigley Field to raise awareness for kidney cancer, which claimed her mother as a victim last year.
