Is it just me or are umpires increasingly making themselves part of the story this season? During Boston's 3-1 win over Minnesota on Thursday afternoon , umpire Todd Tichenor ejected not one, not two, not three, but four participants in the seventh inning.
The photo above shows Tichenor, a 32-year-old proctor who was just called up from AAA, giving Terry Francona and Jason Varitek(notes) the old heave-ho after little-to-no arguing at the plate. A half-inning earlier, he tossed Ron Gardenhire and catcher Mike Redmond(notes), who had never been ejected in 12 major league seasons. Sensitive much, Todd?
So have at it, amateur Internet copy editors of the world. How should this caption read?
1st — Bob Scroggins. Hillman: "I know you washed our white jerseys with that hat!"
Ump: "You take that BACK!!! You know I separate before washing!"
3rd — imreadytoplay. Hillman:Dont call me Phil Garner again!!
Emmel:And dont you call me Alan Hale Jr!!!
