Big League Stew - MLB

We're almost two hours into the Clemens and McNamee hearing and  Rep. Dan Burton just got done branding Brian McNamee in front of the entire nation.  Didn't know there were that many Yankee fans in Indiana, but Mr. Burton seemed liked a full-blown Bleacher Creature when he proclaimed that "(Roger Clemens) is a titan of baseball!"

Other favorite quotes from the day's early testimony:

• "Mr. Clemens bled through his designer pants."

• "Mr. Clemens, do you recall any bleeding through your pants in 2001?"

• "Those little band-aids for his butt, if it bled."

• "Mr. Clemens, according to your account, Mr. McNamee injected your wife in your bedroom without your knowledge."

• "That said there was a palpable mass on the right buttock of Mr. Clemens. On another record, it also noticed a similar mass on the left buttock.”

• "That was a hurried instance when we were in the closet."

Admittedly, this is a pretty juvenile post. But tell me these meandering lines of questioning by the representatives isn't silly and foolish as well. These guys are jumping around more than an episode of Lost.

Elsewhere, there's plenty of Clemens hearing stuff going around the blogosphere. Click here if you're up for some heavy drinking over lunch.  Or here if you want to learn more about Clemens' not-so-madeup word of the day ("misremember"). Finally, here's a live blow-by-blow account of the testimony.

I am so torn about this, he is a legend and a great player. But is he telling the true or is this the ultimate fall from grace.

hilarious. I heard the statements in context, but reading them here is absolutely hilarious. Clemens sounds as if he's reciting his memories. McNamee seems like all of us would, remembering more as time goes. McNamee is a broken man trying to fix it under the conflict of his own guilt and the relationships he did not want to sacrifice. Clemens is reciting answers.

Burton's fawning over Clemens was disgusting...
I'm not sure how any unbiased observer of these hearings could not come to the conclusion that good 'ole Roger is a roider. The Pettitte testimony alone seals the deal and caught Roger in a huge lie.

Roger wake up. You have not answered one question yet. Clinton lied better than Roger. You are no longer the hero that we thought, just move on. Your wife was getting stuck while you were not at home and you still befriended this guy? Yea right.

Is there any website where I can put the money to be who's lying? I'll put my money on Roger. I think he was really breaking apart in this hearing, while McNamee had been just cold from the beginning.

Clemens was evasive and abrasive. He often chose not to directly answer the questions.
    McNamee was subdued and direct.
Since Clemens denied using steroids at least 100 times, shouldn't he be guilty of at least 100 counts of perjury? What's the max penalty, 10 years per count? Lock him up cause he's a bad boy bad boy whatcha gonna do whatcha gonna do when they penetrate you

Roger is just lying through his teeth.. McNamee is getting no benefit in wrongfully accusing him and hes been right about everyone else thus far... Especially Pettite, who just admitted more use of HGH today and listening to Indiana Rep Burton made me want to throw up

I agree, Roger is lying. McNamee is no saint, but his scenerio and his actions are more credible than Rogers. I believe McNamee lied at first, hoping it would all just blow over like it did for Andy and Chuck, but with Roger calling him out, then he had to backtrack and come clean.
Roger is a man who is used to getting what he wants and not having to answer to anyone so he thinks everyone should just believe him even though it is clear he is a roider.

That Burton jackass should get tossed out of Washington for the way he acted during the hearings. And wasn't it nice to see a few of the congressmen and women had to rush down after the hearing and chat it up with Clemens and his team. Very strange scene. No wonder this country is so *ucked up.

Shaka makes sense as to why McNamee initially lied to the investigators. He was simply trying to cover up for his pals is how I take it. Once he realized what was at stake, he fessed up.

The most important thing to me is that the one Senator said "the only person I believe to be truthful at this point, is Andy Pettite."
To attack creditability, I mean, if you get called on the carpet, how much do you have, no matter who you are? McNamee is a bit of a weasel. That being said, I do believe he injected Roger too, and if he didn't, then Knoblach and Pettite should also go to jail for saying on record that Roger did.
Its much like the Bonds thing: here is my trainer, who gives all these things to my friends, yet not only never gives it to me, but also never discusses it with me. Ah, sure.

Today's congressional hearing on the steroid scandal between Clemens and McNamee
is a very sad chapter in the history of baseball. Clemens might go in to the Hall of Fame
with an " asterisk " ; or more obviously , into Hall of Shame !
