Bud Selig is making some blog waves Monday with his letter to a fan that states his unwavering belief in a certain baseball genesis story. You know, the one involving Civil War general Abner Doubleday and a empty cow pasture that was proven false a long time ago.
I can't say that I care one way or the other about Selig's inaccurate assertion, though as Rob Iracane pointed out to me, it's puzzling why Selig would feel the need to take such a stance. Also, a few leading baseball minds have taken offense and a Twitter hashtag (#ThingsBudSeligBelieves) has sprung up in the story's wake.
It's really an offseason slow news day story, but when there's an opportunity to make a comparison to another iconic old man going ahead with his own version of fact-challenged history, you better believe I'm going to take it.
"Dear Bud Selig. There are too many positions on the diamond. Please eliminate three."
