Braves dangling Wickman

NEW YORK -- The Atlanta Braves are shopping closer Bob Wickman.

Any deal would likely be contingent on the club completing a swap with the Kansas City Royals for Octavio Dotel, which is being held up until the Braves can complete the Mark Teixeira trade with the Texas Rangers.

As the deadline approaches, the Braves and Rangers continue to digest the medical information on the six players involved in that trade. One source insisted neither deal was in jeopardy, and the delay was simply a matter of exchanging information.

I can't see why they would replace Wickman with Dotel.

Trade him to the Springfield Nuclear Plant softball team. He's a dead ringer for that safety inspector in Sector 7G.

Braves need a stand-out closer, instead of last years fame.

There is no reason why the Braves can't catch the Mets now. If they plan on keeping Wickman they need to make him a middle reliever. Things are too close for the Braves to continue letting him close games. His stuff is not sharp any more and teams are killing him. Too many seasons have been lost at the end b/c of stupid mistakes. Having Wickman remain the closer would be one!

if you get dotel, they can put him or soriano in the closer role, and maybe restock the farm system or pick up a starter

As a Ranger fan, I'd take Wickman as the player to be named later if Harrison doesn't pass his physical. Especially since it appears that we're dealing Gagne.

what do you mean you cant see why they would replace wickman with dotel.....dotel would have 25 saves if the royals could muster the effort to win that many games....dotel woudl be a great addition to a bullpen who needs a secure starter

Dotel isn't a whole lot better and he is "untested" yet having recently returned from the DL.

Wickman definetly isn't worth the hype he got at the end of last year. He just doesn't have the command he once did. I think Dotel and Soriano would be enough to get the job done. Davies is no real loss. With Hudson, Smoltz, James and Carlisle, the Braves definetly have what it takes. Huddy and Smoltz may not be quite the Schilling/Johnson comparison, but they might just have what it takes to be enough if the offense can keep up.

Keep Wickman and just make him a middle reliever or challenge Dotel for the closer role. You can't have too much pitching if you plan to play on into October.

When Wickman lines up to pitch his last pitch, flashblubs will pop by the thousands and Braves fans will rise up to applaud him! No way he gets traded.

Wickman has been pitching much better of late (after the All-Star break). Unfortunately, he has been the victim of some pretty bad luck. I reference the blown save at the Giants where his pitches were good, but the ball didn't fall his way (or in Willie Harris' glove). At any rate, he's keeping his pitches down, but very little seems to be going his way....at least that is the case on the road.

Hell, it would be nice to see Wickman leave and have Gange and Dotel come in as setup and closer roles.

#6 The Braves haven't lost a season "at the end" in 15 years. How do you interperet that as too many? They only lose in the playoffs & the WS.
