Big League Stew - MLB

After seeing Prince Fielder shove Manny Parra back to the bench during Monday's game in Cincinnati, my first instinct was to make the easy vegetarian joke and say that Prince's blood sugar was low.

But this morning, beat writer Tom Haudricourt posted this hearsay quote from Fielder — "We stayed out there and watched your (bleep). You can stay out here and watch our (bleep)" — an all-timer, if there ever was one .. and one that sheds a little more light on the situation.

If Parra was bailing on the game to go play PSP in the locker room, then it's easy to see why Fielder went into his "Prince! Angry! Prince! Smash!" mode. It also makes it easy to see that Fielder isn't anywhere close to being a team leader, which in turn somehow shows that Ned Yost isn't fit to be Milwaukee's manager in the middle of a pennant race.

That's a circuitous route, I know, but this latest episode is just the latest piece of evidence that Yost has lost control of his team for the second season in a row. On another team, with a different crew of players, I think Yost's managing style mix of somehow being both laissez-faire and — for lack of a better word — a major red-(rear) would work. But not with a young crop of players who have either little experience or no inclination to set an example for others. (I think Ryan Braun will get there eventually, but still doesn't have enough time under his belt to really make a clubhouse difference.)

So what happens now? I honestly have no idea. Yost has seemingly been on the edge of the plank over the past 12 months or so, yet GM Bob Doug Melvin has made it clear that he'll be the lead dog until we're notified otherwise. Which means the Brewers have three options when it comes to this one-sided shoving match — which path do you think they'll take?

What impact will the Prince Fielder-Manny Parra incident have on the Brewers?

Reminds me of last year's confrontation between Yost and Johnny Estrada that began last year's tumble for the Brewers. Yost is toast.

Prince Fielder is a loose cannon. It will not be long before he hurts someone. He thinks that he should be paid all this money, that he is the greatest. Another Gary Sheffield in the making. Wait and see.

Yet another reason to support my claim that only one Melvin should be allowed in MLB.

I get tired of all the talk of managers needing fired when teams are disfunctional. These players today get paid very well to perform and co-exist in a team atmosphere. Manager's should be there to make the game time decisions. Perhaps some of it will be personnel, ego, management because they make the starting line-ups etc. But when are we as a fan base gonna say enough is enough to these egomaniacs. Fielder needs to put his ego in check. If he wants to go down the tunnel and tell Parra that he needs to sit on the bench and support his team that is great. For him to shove a team mate is unacceptable. In the video I saw Parra did nothing physical even when he was pushed.
So long Brewers. It is a shame to see a young, talented team fall apart again.

Wow, Parra, grow a pair! The first shove I can understand why he put up no defense but the second shove immediately following the first should have gotten at least an arm up or a pissed off look or something other than fetal position followed by deer in headlights.
Overall though, Brewers are toast and Prince might have just cost himself a sweet Nike commercial contract.

I wish the Reds had a true leader like Prince. ( 3 or 4 of him. ) I think it will light a fire 4 the Brew crew. Maybe not 4 Parra ( who needs to grow a set ) I think Prince is great. A true leader.

Pushing the teamates doesn't make any sense, just like Manny and Youkilis, and now Fielder and Manny Para. Can't they all just get along here? If Brewers struggle a lost, so be it.

Moe, I gotta disagree wholeheartedly. I don't see this guy as a leader, or someone the team seems to rally around.
I could be wrong of course, but he just seems to have a negative cloud following him. From his contract squabbles to his temper flaring up.
But hey, if it fires em up, shows what I know.

Does that mean that Parra just slinks into the dugout sulking while his teammates are busting their balls for him? Hell no! I think that Prince went a little overboard, but the message is clear: don't try to walk out on your teammates.

Yost IS and always was a horrible manager...he has done absolutely nothing in Milwaukee...Phil Garner Jr.
Braun is too cocky...I'm amazed nobody's throw one in his ear...although I give the Cubs alot of credit for pitching him (somewhat) in last week when they swept the Boo Croo causing him to not once but twice attempt to BUNT for a hit!!
Fielder isn't a leader....nor should he be - what is he? 23 - 24 years old??? Plus he's waiting on that big pay day contract so of course he's gonna get testy!! Playing with that man's money is like playing with his food...apparently.
The Boo Croo have a "Yost Infection" they need to get rid of....fast!!
    Vagasil aisle 9...

    kevin youkilis
    david wells
    ted lilly
    carlos zambrano
    michael barrett
    frank francisco
    milton bradley
...that team would fight daily and then maybe john gibbons would get hired to a team again .....

    hello,
Did you hear what Prince was saying????? You better stay out here and watch the rest of the game!!!
You better stay here and support your team, especially after you have stunk up the joint. As a former player (D1 College) it would motivate me.

What I thought was interesting was how quickly ESPN's Eric Young got on the Prince Fielder bandwagon and defended his actions on national TV. Fielder was wrong and Young was even MORE wrong for defending him. Professional athletes should be held to a higher standard, but I guess that doesn't go for ESPN TV anaylists.................

So is this like a yearly thing??? With Ned Yost and Johnny Estrada last year, great!! I'm already looking forward to next year, hehehe. Parra and Fielder are probably talking about Brett Favre which happens to play for Milwaukee also, just a different sport.. Prince Fielder and Manny Parra probably didn't agree with each other about Brett Favre.. hahahaha!

It is embrassing to see black athletics acting like they came from the jungle. I am black and it is bad to see PRO black athletes act this way. Fielder act like a thug on national TV. Good example to the youth of America. It looks bad for the race, guys like Fielder, Smith(panthers), Michael Vicks, Mike Tyson, Carmelo Anthony, Kobe Bryant, and on and on getting into the spotlight the wrong way. It takes away the good the other black athletes do for the community. The Black Pro Athletes need to curb that ghetto angry and morals that they take with them. The world is changing that Behavior is not acceptable in the modern world. The bad acts for black athletes is out of hand. So many good athletes don't make it out of gates at all. When you are in the spotlight act responsible and set good examples.

Team is imploding. Ship Fielder out. He is a hothead snapping bats, pushing pitchers and flipping out on umps. His staredowns are irritating. The only thing this thug should be leader of is a gang.

I agree Yost should be gone. His sitting back and being patient approach isn't getting them anywhere. Fielder will never be a clubhouse leader. He's either pissed off....or goofin' off. I like him as a hitter, but nothing else. Maybe being a vegetarian now is making him crabby. I don't blame Prince for getting mad about Parra wanting to hit the showers early........but that's the Managers job to handle that situation. Again.....good bye Yost.
