... Ambiorix Burgos reports to jail in the Dominican Republic wearing not a cap of his team, the New York Mets, but of Chicago's South Side squad. He'll have to wait in detention for three months while awaiting trial for allegedly killing two women during a traffic accident on Sept. 30

I know the hat matches his shirt — which, come to think of it, doesn't do much for my image either — but shouldn't there be some sort of rule that states an athlete can't wear the hat of another team in his sport, especially while being taken into custody?

It's amazing how many pro athletes get into trouble with the law. They have everything going for them and it seems money and wealth makes them turn stupid. He's still facing charges in New York for slamming his girl friend to the ground. What a dope.

Adam S - If you think Omar would trade this guy, you're sadly mistaken. He's one of his boys, just like every other Latino on this planet. Before Burgos got involved with either altercation, Minaya was praising him as if he was our Savior. This bum hasn't pitched in but a handful of games over 2 seasons and along with Pedro, Moises, Beltran, Delgado, and El Duque', have been receiving praise from Omar as if they helped us to win 2 World Series Championships. All this leaves me in disbelief as to how Omar has a job, and what type of medication the Wilpons are obviously NOT taking. I'm done with these Muts, their Latino "core" and prejudice GM.

And we need these athletes in the US for what reason? I hate to seem like a xenophobe, but I thought we had immigration laws to exclude someone like this, facing multiple murder charges, from being here. We have plenty of multiple murderers already, we don't need to import more. Ditto for baseball players.

The US needs to stop letting people that aren't citizens work, play or go to school in this country...You watch the Olympics? How many foreign athletes got scholarships to US colleges, meanwhile kids that are citizens can't even afford to go.

Hey PML, how about John Maine, Ryan Church, Brian Schneider, Scott Schoeneweis, and Billy Wagner, not to mention drafting Joe Smith, Nick Evans and Daniel Murphy?

This guy is all kinds of bad, and the INS should make sure he doesn't come back here except to face charges for beating up another woman--and then send him back . If he doesn't get convicted, hopefully the relatives of these poor women will give him rough justice.

Saro G - You mentioned 8 non-latinos on a roster of 24 players as if that's proving a point. Why don't you open your eyes and stop being so proud? The only reason you've seen Muphy and Evans play this year is because Omar's 1st choices, Tatis, Pagan, and Alou are all on the DL. Then you can tell me why Castillo was paid $24million when he should've been given "handicapped plates" and a broome instead of a contract. Burgos is smiling as he is being booked and he's still facing charges in NY for beating his girlfirend. What a classy guy, huh?

Dave R - I am not a Yankees fan, but seeing the color of your skin, I can understand your "perspective." You keep on rooting for your "posse," thats cool, I'll put my money elsewhere and enjoy a team where ethnicity is not the primary reason for being given a starting position. While you enjoy watching another post-season, count how many latinos are on the teams that are still playing. If you can do 3rd grade math, you'll see the Mets have at least twice as many as any of the remaining teams in the playoffs. Coincedence?? I think not.

Well vongauss, a judge ruled he broke the traffic laws by running over the two women with his Hummer and put him in jail for three months to await trial for murder. So it isn't exactly just being arrested, is it?

maybe you guys should try reading the subject again. if you all would put your racial issues asside for a minute you would see that the important thing here is not where that idiot is from, but what that idoit has done. there are 2 families in the dominican republic greeving over thiere lost, and my heart and prayers go out to those families. and honestly. ive been a met fan for over 30 years, and i know you all know they weren't latin for 30 years, but did i or any other latin fans lose our minds, and start posting up that we wanted more latin ballplayers. no. we have enjoyed baseball the way it has been shown, and tought to us for decades. my fellow met fans, if you are still met fans, move on with life. baseball will be played with what ever best players you can put on the field, and are doing theire jobs, so there should be no reason to cry race.
