Big League Stew - MLB

OK, it's official: The Yankees signing Manny Ramirez to a free agent deal is atop my wishlist as a blogger his holiday season. Are you kidding? If such a thing were to happen, I'd have 64 percent of my posts already written for 2009. If the news came down, I'd react like a kid opening VCR Baseball on Christmas.

And finally there are some whispers that such an offer could take place. Mark Feinsand of the NY Daily News quotes a source today as saying the Yankees "are going hard" after Man-Ram and could put a three-year deal worth $22-25 million per season on the table.

As one might imagine, the Bros. Steinbrenner are said to be on board with this possible Bronx-shattering move much more than GM Brian Cashman is. No word on how teammates like the newly-acquired CC Sabathia or the jockstrap-wearing A-Rod would feel about such an addition, though putting Ramirez into that lineup would be absolutely frightening for the rest of Major League Baseball.

Feinsand speculates that agent Scott Boras won't let Manny move anywhere until Mark Teixeira, another of his clients, is signed, sealed and delivered somewhere. That's because if Teixeira ends up anywhere other than Anaheim or the Bronx, that could open an interesting bicoastal bidding war between the Steinbrenners and Angels owner Arte Moreno. After a few weeks of relative disinterest in Manny Ramirez, maybe we're finally getting somewhere.

What do you think?

Do you think Manny Ramirez should become a Yankee?

What did Manny do to deserve serving time with the Steinbrenner family? Whatever it was it must have been serious to be sentenced to that sort of hard time. Maybe his agent can get him off doing community service somewhere else.

The wall street Yankees will sign Manny, and then Ty Cobb, Shoeless Joe Jackson, Bring back Lou Gehrig and that guy who chucked his shoes at Bush. After that they'll really get serious about signing big names

we do need Manny's bat to replace Abreu and Giambi, but Teix makes more sense because he can hit and field. 1B is open, but i don't see the Yankees sign him to a 10 years $200 mil he is going to get. if they do, they'll have 4 players making $20+ mil a year. that will put more pressure on them to win it all.

TEIXEIRA before Manny and Manny before A=Rod. Manny might at least play for the US team where as a treasonous ass like A-rod is going to play for the Dominican team when he is American made! How sad a Yankee who is unAmerican!

Big Tex would be a better option than Manny but I guess they'll have to settle for Manny. Manny is getting older and he isn't hitting like he used to.

All these sports owners should be helping out the economy instead of giving1 person so much money. After all that is one of the reasons the economy is so bad as all these owners in all sports have more money than they know what to do with it.You can't tell me where there is one sports player that is worth that kind of money. As far as I am concerned all these players are way over paid and cry when they don't get their way and also think they are above the law and get by with anything they want to do.
Look at the ones that gets messed up with drugs cause they have no better way to spend their money. All big jokes.

At 67, I stop rooting for Yanks if they get Manny. No class! Bad enough to have to put up with a confused, immature A Rod. I'd love them to get Teixera.

13 This is a free enterprise nation. What business of it is yours what owners do with their money and teams?
If you won the lotto you would buy new things, pay off bills and go on vacations but not contemplate other peoples misfortunes.

RS I feel you are right but to the extreme. The owners buy the players because the fans buy the tickets, the sports packages and the gear. Without the revenue from the fans the egos can not be over inflated. I have not paid for a baseball game in five years (a Yankee opening day). I figure if I need my fill of baseball I will teach my son to catch, then little league, father and sons....
I can live the rest of my life without the majors just not without baseball!

I've always liked Manny, despite his high-school ability in left field, and the "Manny being Manny" charades, of the last few years. But as a life-long Red Sox fan, if he signs with the SpankMe's, I'll burn all his jerseys, and booo every one of his AB's.

could the TO of baseball be anymore unlikeable....cant wait for him to go back to the sorry Dodgies for two years...let's see how he acts when hes buried in the basement next season...the west should just have to take a few years off, as there are easily 6 or 7 teams better than anyone in the west...
and the yankees are idiots to even consider this team killer...but then again hal and hank are just that....
