In looking for a way to apologize, Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Brandon Morrow(notes) chose a medium speedier than the fastball he hit Casper Wells(notes) in the face with on Wednesday.
Twitter.
A major league hurler using the 140-character service to publicly smooth over any bad feelings that the Seattle Mariners right fielder may have been harboring?
If that's not a first, it certainly has to be among the initial wave of attempts.
Here's what Morrow (@2morrow23) sent directly to Wells (@upstateballer) after he struck out 12 Mariners over six innings in a 5-1 Jays win at Safeco Field.
@upstateballer Casper, sorry about the pitch that got away tonight. I'm glad it didn't get you too bad. Enjoy Seattle, it's a great city
Sorry 'bout the shiner there, fella! Try the salmon!
Wells had to leave the game after the HBP, ending any chance he had at extending his streak of consecutive games with a homer to five. But the good news is that X-rays didn't reveal any broken bones, so he should be ready to go for Friday's game against the Rays.
That positive prognosis likely put Wells in a good enough mood to accept Morrow's apology a short time after it was issued.
@2Morrow23 no worries man. Just grazed the schnaz a little bit, nothing serious. And Seattle is amazing.
So all's well that ends well, apparently, and perhaps Morrow and Wells can get together for a Mack & Jack's the next time their two teams play.
Better living through technology, etc.
