Big League Stew - MLB

They know.

Just a month after I started my righteous crusade to ban the growing hip bump fad from Major League Baseball, several All-Stars are now aware of my ongoing struggle and fight.

That's right. Armed with a video camera and a willingness to preach — but also carrying no sense of dignity or decorum — I used Monday's All-Star media day as an opportunity to convert those who know not what they do.

The result is this proselytizing documentary which shows several players rebuffing my efforts to show them the error of their ways, but also several others who are sympathetic to the cause and agreed to join the fight.

Of particular interest:

Dan Uggla booting me and my request for support as quickly as he did three baseballs during Tuesday night's game.

Milton Bradley ironically claiming he does everything possible to avoid injury, which is why he doesn't hip bump. (That claim pretty much killed me, but I appreciated MB's support.)

Ryan Braun (who looks a little like Henry Rowengartner, if you ask me) giving his endorsement because he and the rest of the Brewers' outfield believes the traditional high-five is a much more sensible and less injurious way to celebrate.

Without further delay, here's the video:

Ryan Braun continues to strike me as a baseball player who *gasp* ENJOYS HIMSELF! Yes, it's just a silly hip-bump campaign, but you can almost see Braun saying "yeah, I'll play along" just for kicks. Some of the guys you interviewed (Uggla, I'm looking at you) came off as completely humorless. And yes, he truly is "Rookie of the Year". Braun for MVP!

Also, I had to laugh at McLouth. He's basically from my hometown (Whitehall is a tiny speck about 15 miles north of Muskegon, a slightly larger speck). "I don't score touchdowns." Hahaha.

The hip bump is stupid... Its like a half chest bump. Like you dont want to bump chests. Just hips. Wtf? Who does that? And its stupid when they turn in 180 degree jumps and "butt bump". Wtf? You cant do chest, you missed hip, so you slam your backsides together? Wtf is the high five? Please?

So where's the PSA? I need to see some Little Leaguers try to do the hip bump, and then have Milton Bradley walk up to show them the proper way to celebrate: "Wow! It's Major League All-Star Milton Bradley!"

Support the Hip-Bump! They are Proffesional Baseball players if they can dive, hit walls get hit by pitches, or flying bats, they can definitely do the Hip-Bump without getting hurt. 'Duk is just mad because he cant jump to do the hip-bump himself!

dont u have anything else to write about...keep the hip bump.... So if u didnt like the high five should they stop that too...Stop being a hater and let players have fun and enjoy the game... Write something real and if players stop because of ur article then they definitely have self issues.

I actually have a campaign to increase hip bumpage, as I feel that there are not enough grown men smacking mid sections in baseball and the act actually promotes wellness (as opposed to hazards such as sneezing and/or exiting of hot tubs). I'm currently seeking endorsements of my own.
