A-Rod's contract has incentives

Alex Rodriguez, the New York Yankees and, yes, Scott Boras continued Thursday afternoon to negotiate the final details of a 10-year contract that will be worth about $275 million at its base, but could go higher if Rodriguez attains certain performance goals.

Reached in Florida, where he has spent the week with Rodriguez, Boras said the Yankees had not attempted to bar him from negotiations, and that discussions with team president Randy Levine and club attorneys were ongoing.

"Alex and [his wife] Cynthia visited with the Steinbrenners and other Yankees officials on Wednesday," he said. "From that meeting, Alex has instructed me to discuss contract terms with the Yankees."

It appears now just a matter of days – or hours – before Rodriguez is again under contract with the Yankees, less than a month after he opted out of the final three years of his last contract. The announcement could coincide with Monday's announcement of the American League's Most Valuable Player, which will be Rodriguez's third, and second with the Yankees.

I wonder how the fans will react to A-Rod coming back, especially after it seems apparent that it's all about the money for him.

Yes makes sense, the guy can't live on 27.5 million a year. He needs incentives.

seems like he decided the money they were talking 350 mil just wasnt there. Poor guy will have to live on 27.5, all my sympathy - and btw - yanks can have him - while he is a great hitter -PITCHING WINS - I want my team(mets) to spend the money on pitching pitching pitching.

Once the Yankees found out they had to give players up to get Cabrera they realized that throwing money at a player is still the best way to go. Farm systems and trades, if they only knew how to do that!!
Money is much easier, you don't need any skills, just money.
They came up with the right move, but it took them a while to figure it out.

Pitching wins, however theres no pitching available in the free agent market. As far as AROD coming back, I'm for it, he had a great season and is a exciting player to watch when youre at the games. ( I live in NYC).
all of these players are all about the money, and I would be too...A-ROD sells alot of tickets and merchandise, the yankees plaster his face all over their network and his jerseys are everywhere!

If you really liked your job and another company offered you a ton of money to go to work for them...what would you do? I bet if you wanted to stay you would ask for more money. Why be jealous of the top baseball player in the game? Are you pissed that JayZ makes all the cash he does? Or how about Rush Limbaugh or Brad Pitt? I think you should get the very most you can get when you can get it because you never know when you might wake up like Mike Tyson and realize it is all gone. Trust me the Yankees will make way more off this guy than the salary will be. Home run champ, maybe hits champ, all the memorabilia...not to mention the ticket sales. Now if only we can get him over the hump and not stay Mr, September....Go Yanks!
