Vikings' Everson Griffen on NFI list, out after scary incident at his home

The Minnesota Vikings sent defensive end Everson Griffen to the reserve/non-football illness list on Friday, meaning he will be sidelined for at least three games.

Griffen was transported to a mental health facility Wednesday after he made disturbing Instagram posts and called 911 about an intruder at his home.

Police said Griffen called 911 around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, saying that someone was inside his home. Griffen reportedly told police that he fired a weapon, but that nobody was injured.

Police were “unable to locate an intruder” once they arrived, and Griffen then refused to come out of his home. He had reportedly posted videos to Instagram saying someone was in his home trying to kill him, and could be seen holding a gun.

Griffen finally left his home around 1:30 p.m. peacefully, and was taken to a healthcare facility.

Griffen is out indefinitely, and the Vikings won’t try to rush him back while he’s seeking the care he needs. At best, he will be eligible to return for their matchup with the Chicago Bears on Dec. 20.

The 33-year-old was drafted by the Vikings in 2010, and he racked up 79.5 sacks during his initial 10-year stint with the team. He spent last season with the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions before returning to Minnesota this year. He missed about a month during the 2018 season after multiple similar incidents.
