The New York Mets added to their bullpen on Wednesday, acquiring right-hander Chris Beck off waivers from the Chicago White Sox.

To clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Beck, the Mets outrighted catcher Jose Lobaton to Triple-A Las Vegas. New York will make a move to open a spot for Beck on the active roster when the reliever joins the team Thursday in Arizona, multiple media outlets reported.

Beck, 27, was designated for assignment by the White Sox on Saturday. He pitched in 14 games for Chicago this year, compiling a 4.18 ERA with one save and no decisions. Beck had 16 strikeouts and 11 walks in 23 2/3 innings.

Lobaton, 33, was designated for assignment by New York on Tuesday. In 19 games with the Mets this season, he hit .152 with no homers and three RBIs. He played the previous four years with the Washington Nationals after prior stints with the San Diego Padres and Tampa Bay Rays.
