Scouting Report on James Wilson

by Mike Farrell - 06/19/2006
Wilson is a versatile lineman who could play all five positions along the line in college. He’s a brawler who explodes off the football and loves to hit. He has excellent balance for a big man and avoids pileups well when pulling, using his athletic ability and nimble feet to get to where he needs to be. Wilson explodes into his blocks and has very good leg drive, engaging opponents and driving them out of the play. He plays to the whistle at all times as well and is always looking to deliver the last hit or get downfield for a key block. Wilson is quick and agile enough to snap center, plays low enough and with such leverage that he could play anywhere on the interior line and has the feet to play either tackle slot, although right tackle would be much more likely. He needs to be a little quicker off the ball and takes a mini hop step off the snap which can get him high and off balance, but he’s quick enough to compensate at the high school level. Wilson has very strong hands and uses his arms well when engaging a defender.
