Scouting Report on Anthony Johnson

by Barry Every - 11/05/2010
  • SpeedDivision I Player
  • SizeBlue Chip
  • StrengthBlue Chip
  • AgilityDivision I Player
  • Lateral PursuitBlue Chip
On the Hoof: Massive shoulders and chest with long, muscular arms and thick powerbase. His physique is similar to Ohio State star Cameron Heyward.
Needs Improvement: Plays with reckless abandon. Needs to be in control and play assignment football. Johnson will need to improve his technique, and use the spin and swim move less because those tactics leave him vulnerable to being injured.
Most Impressive: Is definitely a pass-rushing threat from the interior defensive line position. He is very quick off the ball and has the ability to blow up plays in the backfield. His body structure for a defensive tackle is a 10 and he could hold more weight and muscle mass on his frame. His overall athleticism will allow him to play strongside defensive end in a pinch.
Conclusion: His body type is very rare and if he shows off excellent pass-rushing ability in practice the coaches will give him a chance early. Has potential to be an All-American.
