Mark Stoops came into the Kentucky program, came close to cleaning house, and is starting his first year with his own players and his own staff.
Doesn't mean he doesn't think about players who came before him.
Former wide receiver Randall Cobb -- now a blooming star with Green Bay -- tweeted out a picture of UK gear sitting in his NFL locker.
Former center Matt Smith -- currently battling for a roster spot with the Atlanta Falcons -- tweeted out a picture of UK gear Stoops sent him, along with the following note:
"Matt, good luck in training camp! You are welcome back here any time. Let us know if there is anything we can still do. Go Cats! -- Coach Stoops."
It's a nice (and smart) gesture from the current coach to send a welcome note to former players, and a policy that's parallel to one used (to great effect) by John Calipari.
There isn't the same type of legion of former Cats in the pros with the football program, but engendering support and getting this type of publicity, in whatever dose it may come, is a good thing as Stoops embarks on the building process.
