How would you like to have John Calipari as a part-time recruiter on staff?
Not a bad deal for Kentucky football coach Mark Stoops, who has been getting some extra help from the basketball coach since he arrived in December. Stoops talked today about what Calipari has done to help the football program. You'll remember that Kentucky signed the No. 29 recruiting class in the nation in February, the Wildcats' best class ever.
"He's fantastic," Stoops said. "He's been really good and very supportive from the minute I got here. As I said before, with recruits in December and January, inviting us into their locker room and into their facility and talking with our prospects before their games, making time for us. He's been extremely supportive and we're very appreciative of that. It means a lot to us and a lot to our recruits and our players."
Kentucky's locker room and team facility at Rupp Arena, you'll remember, is rather impressive. It's worth noting that previous coach Joker Phillips also praised Calipari for his help when he was coaching also, so this is nothing new. But the recruiting success for the program is new.
