UK football's game at Mississippi State this fall has been moved to a Thursday night kickoff. Rather than play on Saturday, October 26, the game will be on Thursday, Oct. 24. It's a 7:30 kickoff on ESPN, the network announced on Tuesday.
It's the first time UK has played on Thursday since opening the 2011 season against WKU on a Thursday, and the first Thursday night game in the SEC since UK played at South Carolina midweek.
The timing works well for both teams. Kentucky and Mississippi State both have byes on the previous weekend, so neither team will be preparing on a short week.
It's UK's first game back after a three-game meat grinder against Florida, South Carolina and Alabama. Mississippi State plays Bowling Green on Oct. 12 before taking the next weekend off.
It also gives UK another mini-bye week after the game, though they may not need it. They play Alabama State on Nov. 2, nine days after the Bulldogs. That should set them up nicely for the stretch run of the season against Missouri, Vanderbilt, Georgia and Tennessee.
