Former Kilgore JC (Texas) offensive coordinator Josh Pruitt will join the Kentucky staff as a graduate assistant, UK football spokesman Tony Neely confirmed to CatsIllustrated.com.
Pruitt replaces Steven Montalvo, a GA last fall who will now work in the recruiting office as assistant director of recruiting.
If Kilgore sounds like a familiar name, it's because that's where Kentucky signed junior college tight end Steven Borden from earlier this year. Pruitt was the coordinator this past fall.
Pruitt played wide receiver at Troy in 2005-06 and was later a GA for the Trojans. Neal Brown was his position coach in 2006, when he coached inside receivers at Troy. Brown was at Troy from 2006-09. Offensive line coach John Schlarman was an assistant at Troy from 2007-12, and running backs coach Chad Scott was at Troy from 2007-09.
He is not related to Jeremy Pruitt, who replaced Mark Stoops as defensive coordinator at Florida State after coaching Alabama'a secondary the last three seasons. Cornerbacks coach Derrick Ansley played at Troy, but he and Pruitt weren't there at the same time.
The hire was first reported by Pete Roussel of CoachingSearch.com on Wednesday evening. Programs are permitted to have four graduate assistants at any time.
