John Calipari attended the grand opening of the Barclays Center, the new basketball arena in Brooklyn, N.Y., and mingled with a few other stars at the event.
Most notable: Jay-Z, who owns part of the Brooklyn Nets.
"I told Jay-Z that I might get fined $50k for being in HIS locker room tonight," Calipari tweeted Friday night. "He said "I got you". #LaFamilia"
Calipari was invited because UK is one of the first teams to play in the Barclays Center. UK will play Maryland on Nov. 9. The Nets will have played six games (three preseason, three regular-season) when the Wildcats take the floor.
It's just another example of Calipari making his presence at huge events known. He tweeted out pictures of himself standing in front of Jay-Z as he performed (above) and posing with Magic Johnson (left).
It's more than just personal perks of coaching at Kentucky; recruits notice, too. Perhaps it doesn't play a decisive role in a recruit's decision, but it certainly adds to the aura of playing at UK. Just ask Julius Randle, whose favorite rapper is Jay-Z.
