The dust is finally settling on National Signing Day. Kentucky closed strong with a 22-man class that ranked 28th in the nation, surging in the rankings after Mark Stoops took over for Joker Phillips.
With the coaching change came lots of changes in recruiting. By my count, only 7 of UK's signees committed under the previous staff. The other 15 were all the product of Stoops and his staff. UK had more than 7 commitments when Phillips was fired, though, and those players had to find another home.
Here's where those guys ended up:
DB Jalen Battle: Signed with Illinois State
OL Ander Bodkin: Jacksonville University
OL Jake Boynton: Did not sign on Wednesday
TE Darren Dowdell: Signed to East Carolina
WR Deangelo Yancey: Signed to Purdue
WR Jevontey Smith: Signed to Middle Tennessee State
Let me know if I missed anyone. I think I got them all, but I might be mistaken. It's been a crazy couple weeks for us.
It's important to remember that a lot of these guys were left scrambling very late in the process to find a spot after Phillips and his staff were let go. Many of these guys committed months ago and shut down the recruiting process, so other schools that were pursuing them moved on.
It goes the other way, also. Some schools end up with an extra spot or two on signing day and extend late offers. But this wasn't the situation any of these recruits were expecting when they committed to UK. I don't know if we'll hear from any of them in the coming years, but it'll be interesting to see if their names pop up.
