Waiting anxiously to hear the official word of whether your favorite Kentucky underclassman basketball players will declare for the NBA draft?
Well, you'll have to wait just a little longer.
UK has moved back a press conference from 2 p.m. to 7 EDT tonight for the national champions' five starters, Anthony Davis; Terrence Jones; Doron Lamb; Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Marquis Teague - presumably to announce whether they will turn professional or stay at UK. The school said conflicts with travel arrangements and class schedules forced the time change.
Wildcats fans are lighting up the message boards of CatsIllustrated.com's premium House of Blue and free Rupp Rafters forums discussing whether UK could catch a big break and keep one or two of the young stars for another season. (Lamb and Kidd-Gilchrist are the two most mentioned as possible returners.)
It would be considered a significant surprise if any of the five players stayed at UK another season, and John Calipari said as much on Friday before embarking on a train tour of the state to show off the Cats' national title trophy.
"I expect six first-round picks (from the same school), for the first time in the history of our world," Calipari told CatsIllustrated.com publisher Brett Dawson that day, referring to the five underclassman starters and senior reserve Darius Miller.
Six first-rounders are definitely a possibility should all the players come out, although it wouldn't necessarily be expected.
Davis, the national player of the year, is considered essentially a lock to be the No. 1 overall pick in June's draft. The website DraftExpress.com also projects Kidd-Gilchrist to go No. 3, Jones No. 11 and Teague No. 18 in the first round. Lamb is projected as the No. 3 pick in the second round (33rd overall), two selections before it projects Miller to be picked.
Discuss the Cats on CatsIllustrated.com's message boards all day and check back this evening for coverage of the news conference.
