Players from the 1996 national championship team will be playing in an exhibition prior to the UK alumni game on Sept. 15, the school announced.
Derek Anderson, Anthony Epps, Walter McCarty, Jared Prickett, Jeff Sheppard, Wayne Turner, Antoine Walker, Tony Delk and Oliver Simmons are confirmed participants.
Ron Mercer, Mark Pope, Allen Edwards, Nazr Mohammed, Cameron Mills and Jason Lathrem were the other players on the team. We'll update if any of those players commit to the game.
They will be playing a team comprised of participants in John Calipari's Fantasy Experience weekend.
The game won't be broadcast on TV or radio, Calipari announced, because the former pros participating precludes UK from holding rights.
Combined with the alumni game -- which itself will feature two rosters of former Kentucky players now in the NBA -- and the home football game against WKU at 7 p.m. (during the UK Hall of Fame induction weekend) that same day, it will be a weekend packed with past and present Wildcats.
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday on ticketmaster.com.
To bring back the memories, here's an old-school poster of that 1996 team my friend found in an old poster shop. I'd like to point out the random shapes (orange square, purple triangle) behind the letters, the purely mid-90s font, and Wayne Turner's supermodel pose.
