Team Canada’s Connor McDavid notches highlight assist vs. Finland (VIDEO)

There is that puck perspicacity of Connor McDavid, who is still 16 years old for another three weeks. The wunderkind was put on the left wing alongside Vancouver Canucks first-rounder Bo Horvat and top NHL draft prospect Sam Reinhart for Team Canada's 4-2 pre-competition win over Finland on Friday and dazzled as expected, notching two primary assists.

The line created a scoring chance on most of its shifts. McDavid also displayed that functional genius on the one they converted, Horvat's goal in the first period. The Erie Otters star created the room for Horvat, but also sensed the back pressure from Finland's Henri Ikonen and made a 360-degree turn to avoid the check.

How did McDavid espy Ikonen, who was coming off the Finnish bench? Wondrous.

That, as much as the assist, is the reason those who have seen McDavid believe the standards normally applied to 16-year-olds regarding their fitness for Team Canada just don't apply. He might not dominate, but he seems sure to contribute in full to whatever success the country might have enjoy across the next two weeks.
