Jesús Aguilar ignites Brewers offense with big homer in NLDS Game 3

The Milwaukee Brewers completed a sweep of the Colorado Rockies on Sunday, winning Game 3 of the National League Division Series, 6-0 at Coors Field. Now they’re heading to the National League Championship Series for the second time in franchise history, and they have one man to thank for jumpstarting their bats.

Jesús Aguilar, who came out of nowhere this season to earn an All-Star selection, continued his breakout year with a fourth-inning solo home run off Rockies starter German Márquez.

Neither team had mustered much offense in the series leading in to Game 3. Milwaukee scored seven runs in the two games at home. Colorado only two. But Aguilar’s blast seemed to wake the Brewers bats.

Aguilar’s solo blast was his first ever in the postseason, and the first of three for Milwaukee in the victory. Orlando Arcia and Keon Broxton added solo blasts in the ninth.

Aguiliar, 28, was waived by the Cleveland Indians prior to the 2017 season. The Brewers scooped him up, but didn’t have much of a role for him initially. This season though, he forced his way into the lineup and ultimately into an All-Star selection. Aguilar hit .274 with 35 homers and 108 runs batted in.

Most seasons, those numbers would draw MVP consideration. In Milwaukee, that talk is reserved for Christian Yelich. But it goes to show just how deep and powerful Milwaukee’s lineup is.
