Yahoo! Contributor Network26th & Last Place Currently in IndyCar Is: Tony Kanaan? Fan’s Reaction
Yes, IndyCar is only two events into the current racing season with still a lot of racing to go, but of the current 26 drivers, veteran Tony Kanaan sits 26th in the points … out of 26 drivers.

This new season of 2012 has brought a lot of promise for an array of reasons including new chassis' and engines, which has in essence brought all the teams up even with each other. When combined with a very competitive field, the contests have been close and nobody seems to have a big advantage right now.
There will be growing pains for sure and unforeseen issues can popup and knock the best of them down. KV Racing has begun with an unremarkable start to the year as their three drivers have been mired in the middle of the pack. Okay, one of them could only wish he was mired in the middle of the pack because so far, Tony Kanaan has begun the schedule with terrible finishes in the back.
Mechanical issues
To be fair, in two races, Kanaan has had mechanical concerns both times. However, though he has qualified his Chevrolet in the Top 10 twice, he has a 25th and 21st to show for is troubles at St. Petersburg and Birmingham, respectively.
But the facts are the facts and right now, he couldn't be further down the point standings if he tried. Electrical gremlins ruined his first outing in Florida and rear end problems significantly slowed his effort in Birmingham.
The team calls it bad luck and that's probably true but sitting last in the points after two races has built quite a hole for the Brazilian and his team to climb out of. Some good luck would be in order.
Teammates
His KV Racing teammates are E.J. Viso and Rubens Barrichello and both of them have looked strong at times but inconsistent to date though Barrichello looks like he just might be figuring out American open wheel - he had one of the fastest cars at the end of the race in Alabama (source - Motorsport.com).
Some teams are at Indianapolis for testing the new speedway cars (source - WRTV) with Kanaan as KV Racing's representative … and once again malfunctions have slowed their Chevrolet down.
In the meantime, IndyCar teams will be readying themselves for a trip to Long Beach (April 15), a track that Kanaan has had respectable finishes, all in the Top 10. He can only hope to finish in the Top 10 at this point. Heck, only the place to go is up from here.
