Scouting Report on Noel Devine

by Mike Farrell - 06/19/2006
Devine is the most electrifying prospect to come out of high school since Reggie Bush. Despite his lack of size, he plays strong, breaks tackles and doesn’t wear down at the high school level. His biggest strength is his acceleration which allows him to burst through the smallest hole for big yardage. Devine is a threat from anyplace on the field with his homerun speed and quickness and his vision is excellent. Devine has good hands out of the backfield and is strong enough and low enough to be an adequate blocker when needed. He cuts back very well and has an impressive spin move. He feels the slightest contact and instinctually breaks free and doesn’t slow down when cutting in the open field. Devine is very strong for his size and it usually takes more than one tackler to bring him down. It’s very hard to get a clean shot on him because of his speed and awareness. His yards-after-contact ability is impressive. Devine will fit best in a spread offense at the next level where he has room to operate and go one-on-one with tacklers. His size and willingness to initial contact makes his durability a question mark in college. Devine sometimes tries to do too much on every run rather than accept the limitations of the play and take what he can get, but that determination often leads to some of his biggest runs.
