After a so-so Masters, Ogilvy continued his strong play in the Wachovia Championship -- for three rounds. He was tied for sixth entering the final round, and even though he had little chance to catch winner Anthony Kim, his third top-five finish in his last four tournaments was easily within reach. Then he shot 76 and wound up in a tie for 22nd, his fifth finish in the top 25 in the last six outings. So even though his game appears to be in good shape, he is going into the Players Championship this week with a sour taste in his mouth. The Aussie has played at TPC Sawgrass six times and missed the cut on three occasions. His best result: a tie for 16th in 2004. His 67 in round three last year, when he tied for 37th, is one of only two rounds in the 60s he has recorded in 18 trips around the Stadium Course. Ogilvy tied for fourth against the field by hitting 53 of 72 greens in regulation last week at Quail Hollow, but other than Saturday he couldn't get the ball in the hole once he got there. He needed only 25 putts in round three but took at least 30 every other day and finished with an average of 30.5 putts per round. Ogilvy did not make a bogey for the first 26 holes, then made 10 the rest of the way and threw in a double-bogey 6 on the 72nd hole. |
