Fan’s Take: Tim Tebow and Tiger Woods to Play Golf Together?

My wife sent me an article that mentioned that the good folks at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am are thinking of giving an invite to one Tim Tebow of the Denver Broncos.

Why wouldn't they want to invite Tim Tebow to play in the golf tournament? He is, after all, according to a recent survey, the most popular athlete in American sports. I'm sure that the sponsors and organizers of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am would be thrilled for the Denver quarterback to attend their event.

Currently, Tim Tebow is busily preparing his Denver Broncos team for their game with the New England Patriots. Should they pull off another miracle win then it will be on to play either the Baltimore Ravens or the Houston Texans in the AFC championship game and shot at a potential berth in the Super Bowl.

Now, I do not expect Tim Tebow to play in the Super Bowl, but the Pro Bowl is another matter. The Pro Bowl is held on Jan. 29 in Honolulu, Hawaii. While most players do anything they can seemingly to avoid playing in the Pro Bowl, I don't think Tim Tebow would follow suit. I believe Tebow would love to play in the Pro Bowl, as long as he's reasonably healthy. He is currently the second alternate for the Pro Bowl. I think that it is likely that two quarterbacks ahead of him will drop out so he can make the trip to the Pro Bowl, should he desire to play.

The players' agents put Pro Bowl incentives into the contracts, and yet the players themselves would rather play in the Greater Siberian Open in Vladivostok in early February then go to Honolulu and play in the Pro Bowl. However, Tim Tebow is not your normal player, and I think he would like to play in the Pro Bowl, especially since it would be his first appearance.

Should things work out and Tim Tebow is extended an invitation to play in the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, his first choice of playing partners is Tiger Woods. I think that would be quite the pairing. You have golf's former No. 1 player now turned infamous womanizing bad boy teamed up with the latest incarnation of the family-friendly athlete in Tebow. I am sure there will be many jokes made about good versus evil or something along those lines. Most of us will probably laugh, but it would be good to see, it would be good for ratings, it would be good for golf, and it might even be good for the players themselves.

Here's to hoping that we get to watch Tiger Woods and Tim Tebow strolling down the fairway together on the Monterey Peninsula in early February.

Like you, I know I'll be watching.

Dwight is an avid golfer. While still relatively new to the game, he plays as often as the weather and his schedule will allow.
