Faldo receives knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II

  • Print

WINDSOR, England (AP)—Nick Faldo has been knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for a career in which he won six majors and captained Europe’s Ryder Cup team.

Faldo can call himself “Sir Nick Faldo” following the ceremony at Windsor Castle. He was awarded the honor for his services to the sport.

Faldo says he “had dreams as a young boy of being a golfer and winning tournaments, but you don’t dream of this.”

The two-time European Order of Merit winner won three Masters and three British Open titles. He is just the second professional golfer to be knighted after Henry Cotton in 1988.

Every year that goes by magnifies his accomplishment. The UK will wait a long time before anybody equals it.

    to lardog:

If you respect wife cheaters and poor examples for a father and want them to be "knighted" you are perfectly well within your right to your feelings.

Please respect my feelings, but I do guess that is too much to expect from someone so moraless.

I can't believe that dildo makes $8 million a year combined from the Golf Channel and CBS. No wonder we are in the crap can with our economy. Tell me when his run on TV is over, then I might just be able to watch golf again.

Nick Faldo was one of those few golfers who figured out a way to win despite having lesser talent than someone like Norman or Mickelson. Golf is as much a mind game as it is about skill. Personally, he may have come been a snob and wife-cheater. But he deserves all the golfing accolades. Now, whether Queen should knight such a person is up to her and her United Kingdom!!!

Congratulations Sir Nick.Must say that my opinion of you has changed over the years.Going from a@#$%y young Brit that did his own thing.Said as he pleased whatever or however it may offend someone either inside golf,or out,no matter.Maybe age has mellowed you? Your class, personna, likeability, presence has so changed into a knowledged gentleman. We enjoy you on T.V. with Golf Channel.Quite interesting with your comments about the game,or,the players participating. You deserve this honor, keep doing what your doing.

@Birdie74 - How about a knight who seduces a queen and fractures the royal court, like Lancelot? Get over yourself.

I find it difficult to picture as a knight anyone who will leave his wife and children for an 18-year-old girl child. Just my opinion -- but I expect more of my knight's, you would think the queen would.
