Sindelar hospitalized with pulmonary embolism

SONOMA, Calif. (AP)—Joey Sindelar remained hospitalized Sunday after having a pulmonary embolism during the third round of the Charles Schwab Cup Championships.

The Champions Tour said Sindelar’s condition had improved but doctors at Sonoma Valley Hospital wanted to keep the 51-year-old for further observation.

Sindelar withdrew Saturday and was taken to the hospital for dizziness and shortness of breath after playing the 204-yard, par-3 fourth hole. Sindelar rested in between holes and tried to play the fifth before withdrawing. Medical personnel attended to Sindelar at the course before he was taken to the hospital for additional tests.

Sindelar, a seven-time winner on the PGA Tour, was 7 under for the tournament before withdrawing.

When the PGA played close to me for three years at Mystic Rock Pa., the 84 lumber classic, Joey Sindelar went 'out of his way' to speak at length with me about many subjects....This was during his practice rounds...He was humble, talkative, posed for many pics, signed tons of autographs and was a 'very popular' guy....You didn't have to ask him to come over to you, he did it automatically....Where do you find that on the PGA tour????....On the other hand, bufoon Daly, who was representing 84 Lumber, refused everyone....Maybe that's why he's overseas!!!!....GET WELL JOEY!....YOU'RE THE BEST!

To make it short and sweet, all of the southern tier is wishing joey a quick recovery. i was shocked when my lap-top dropped joy to the bottom of the leaderboard. [that's not joy, it's joey] . we are all rooting for joey to get home soon. he's a real champ to us.

What has happened to Hubert Green? Has he completely stopped playing competitive golf? I was hoping he had beaten his cancer............

I have always thought of Joey Sindelar as a big ole loveable teddy bear. I pray that God will lay His gentle, merciful, miraculously healing hand on Mr. Sindelar and all will be well with him.

I am not current on Joey's personal life but he was married to a doctor a few years back so she might have been on the course with him.

There are different forms of Medical services that follow the tours at least the mens! But to have a entire list of specialists to be IMMEDIATELY available would be very impractical. The tour stops are all located in areas where high quality hospitals and medical teams are readily available, I am sure all the tour players are covered well with third party insurance plans so I am sure they are not walking around with no health care coverage. Another thing is that at any given time there are probably many doctors walking the course or in attendance to the different events.

I think that each stop on the Champions tour should have some form of medical aid that could quickly be on the course to help someone in need...Sindelar is a good case in point...at the ages of some of the guys, and with who knows what medical histories they have, it's just the right thing to do.. The more I think about it, this should be something that ALL TOURS do as a matter of course during competition...STUB
