Devil Ball Golf - Golf

Hey, it's been a full 15 minutes since someone in the world of golf mentioned Tiger Woods' knee surgery! We can't have that! Next thing you know, folks like Kenny Perry and Inbee Park will start grabbing too much attention!

So for those of you Tiger-starved fans, here are some tidbits for you to chew on, digest, and regurgitate. Those of you who aren't Tiger fans can skip right to the regurgitation:

• The LA Times looks at the bright side of the surgery, saying it's a little vacation for Tiger in the middle of his career, a break that few pros get.

• Did you buy tickets to the AT&T National in Bethesda, Md. hoping to see the tournament's host, one Mr. Woods, in action? Hope you can scalp 'em, because Tiger has decided to rest and won't be making the trip.

• Along those same lines, CNBC's Darren Rovell questions whether sponsors should be entitled to some of their money back if their big-name attraction decides not to show up.

• ESPN's Jason Sobel believes Tiger will come back stronger than ever. He'd better, or golf won't make Sportscenter ever again.

• Interested in the technique used to repair Woods' knee? It's called a "double-bundle," and if it works, it's going to make its creator a very wealthy doc.

That's it for now ... stay tuned for our plan to actually auction off excess chunks of Tiger Woods' knee cartilage. (No, not really, of course. But somebody would if they could.)

Ok I've said this before, not only that he's on vacation, He will also have a chance to spend his money and look for a better "NANNY" And also his contract with all his "SPONSORS" are "NO Return" No Exchange, get it,very simple, Sodon't think so hard, Sponsrs are lucky to have Tiger using their products. And Tiger is going to be like "SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN" when he come back. So for now, Enjoy watching Bubba and Kenny. Don't forget the Koreans and the Japanese, Hey how bout that boxer "PAQUIAO"

All the players n the Golf Tour play with pain of some kind or another, just like in oher sports. To continue to updates about Tiger is ok, for the game and fans, but only the important information not all the BS about what he is or is not goining to do. About his sponsors, what about all the money he made for them, no other sport penalizes the athelte for an injury??? I agree too much of analyzing is bad for the Tour, because those that do not like Tiger or those that are tred of all the BS will quit watching the Tour and that would be a shame!!! I learned to play Golf after I was 25 yrs old, I am now 66, still a duffer but I appreciate good golf anwhere and enjoy toowatch the Tour on TV!! That's about all I can say because I am just a fan whom enjoys this sport along with alot of others!! BYE JIM

Please just let us enjoy golf as it plays out the rest of Tigger's rehab. We do not need nor do most of us care about updates on "The Knee". And if Tigger had to refund some sponsor money for not showing up, he would be a little hungrier than he is now.

all those tiger haters sure must be happy that tigers on rehab,if you cannot see how far superior he is to all the others, your either dumb, blind or both.i never used to watch golf, until he started playing and now my brothers and sisters watch also.i dare say that without him, watching golf is about as appealing as watching grass grow.he has taken the game to another level only he exist on,not phil, vijay, ernie,or any of the other wannabes can carry his jock.i can honestly say that i have never heard of golf having the number one athlete in the world as it's bearer.is he bigger that the game?i dare say at this point in his career.yes.so i take news about tiger, whatever news as my tiger fix, aaaahhhh, straight into vein.

If Tiger comes back with the same swing - flat-footed, flailing away like he's going to knock down a redwood tree - he'll be back in surgery again in no time. He's going to have to win with smarts and a lot less power from here on.

John, If you are sick of hearing Tiger's name why did you even read this article? Did someone hold a gun to your head?
Golf will go on without TIger, but it is saddly diminished. Many will watch golf no matter who is playing, but even more watch just for Tiger. During the next few months some of the Tiger-ites may continue to watch, but many will not. AND if Tiger does not come back (PLEASE, NOT THAT!) then golf will fade back to what it was before him.
Me? I am waiting for next year, eagerly anticipating his triumphant return to the links.

#7 - This just dawned on me...I know people are sick of hearing about Tiger. But can you imagine if his name was Duffy Waldorf. How irritating would that be.
Here's my list of "Aren't you glad Tiger Woods wasn't named..."
    1. Cocoa Crisp - Boston Red Sox
    2. Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila - Green Bay Packers
    3. Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf - former Denver Nugget
    4. Nikolai Khabibulin - former NHL goalie
    5. Bimbo Coles - former NBA guard

Can anyone tell me if Tiger is still eligible for PGA Player of the year with his 4 victories this year?

Yes he is, and he'll win it unless 1) Phil wins four more times this year, or 2) Trevor Immelman wins another major.
There are two chances of either of these happening: None, and much, much less than none.

It's amazing the lack of tought that is put in to these posts. Do you even check your spelling or grammar before you hit enter? I'm wondering how many of you realize what pain, or competition (in pain) at the highest level truly entails. I'm not a Tiger LOVER, but it doesn't take much to realize that what we have had the priviledge of watching someone that compares to all of the greats. He is injured... He will be back... and when he comes back, we will have the oppurtununity to see whether or not he is the best we have ever seen.

I personally think Tigers swing is a thing of beauty and grace. I think he'll be back next year stronger AND smarter than ever!! And while I'm waiting I plan to work on improving my own game using him for inspiration!

I agree with everything bigtallmatt said.
But it is funny that he misspelled "privilege" and then used the grammatically incorrect phrase "whether or not" in his post.

Thanks for the update! I confess that I come to the Yahoo! sports page for two reasons: to check on"Dem Bums" and their standing and to see if anyone has overtaken Tiger on any of the tour stat' lists.
NSS: I am an English Professor in addition to being an avid golfer and a die-hard Tiger Woods fan. I graded your critique of bigtallmatt's post--I agree with him too-- and I am afraid I had to give you a "C" for your lack of proper punctuation.

I'm not a golfer and have never been, but I have a golf fan since 1956. I have had knee surgery and I understand how vulnerable the knee is to athletes. It amazes me to see how much strain is placed on the knee during the follow through. I can see how important it is to have the feet anchored . I wonder though why someone hasn't come up with a sole that would allow some tensioned release near the end ot the follow through taking some of the tension off the ACL at a critical time . After all the ball has already been smacked and is long gone when the strain is the greatest on the fragile knee.

I can't believe some of you people - To hate somebody, isn't it a requirement that you have to know them first? I seriously doubt that any of you know Tiger. He's a great golfer and I miss seeing him, but Kenny Perry is a great golfer and seems like a great guy, as is Treavor, VJ, Earnie, Adam, Kim, Bubba, Health and a great majority of other golfers on the Tour. We all know that Tiger will be back, and it will really surprise me if he isn't as good or better than he's ever been - A person couldn't reach a level of success in anything, as Tiger has done in golf, without a burning desire to be the absolute best, and the intelligence and ability to get it done. It is for this reason that I believe that other golfers respect Tiger, and realize, as I do, that he will dominate the PGA when he returns from rehab.
