Every ace is a precious little miracle in its oh-my-God-it's-really-going-in! kind of way, but in Alabama this week, we may have a first -- two golfers who hit back-to-back aces. Trick was, the second golfer's ball went in before the first!
The location: Cypress Lakes Golf and Country Club in Muscle Shoals, Ala., the 112-yard par 3 12th. Pierre Fournier teed off first; his ball landed about eight feet past the hole, but rolled back to the edge and dangled there, looking down into the abyss. After him, Ken Osborne stepped up, knocked down an ace, and only then did Fournier's ball drop in.
The players and a third with them didn't believe the second ball knocked in the first; if it had, they would have had to replace Fournier's ball. And oh, would that have hurt to pull that ball out of the hole!
"It's the craziest thing I've ever seen on the golf course," Stansell said, according to the AP. "I couldn't tell if the wind blew it in or what, but I never saw Ken's ball touch it."
Fournier had a better reaction. "Had mine gone in first and then Ken's, I'd have said, 'Oh my gosh, are we going to get drunk,' " he said. "I knew that if his ball hit mine, my hole-in-one wouldn't count," he said. "I knew that, and I play by the rules."
Good man. I can tell you this, though -- if it'd been my ball sitting on the edge of the hole, I'd have been screaming "Get in the hole!" until my voice went out. Congrats, gentlemen!

"Every ace is a precious little miracle in its oh-my-God-it's-really-going-in! kind of way" You can't describe it any better than this.
