Tiger Woods, speaking on the topic of the military to the masses at Sunday's Inaugural festivities:

Huh. Well, it wasn't exactly "I Have a Dream," but considering the guy isn't used to performing in front of crowds without a club in his hand, it wasn't bad at all. (MTV notes that some folks were screaming "Fore!" as Woods was onstage. Well, what else were they going to scream? "Free Bird"?)

digg delicious

Tiger didn't do a bad job....he is more comfortable talking about kicking butt in majors! It is good to see him taking part in something other then crushing the boys on the tour.

A good speech and all, but nothing that really wowed me. If anything he sounded wooden, no puns intended. But I agree that it's good to see him there. He's a major voice in not just his sport, but all of sports, and he ought to be for years to come.

i guess the only thing 'wow' about this whole thing was the fact that tiger participated in something politically tinged. so, tiger does deserve credit for that - and i do believe that this does mean a lot to him based on his fathers military service background. i applaud him for honoring his father and all our troops world wide.
as a speech maker though...heck, even dubya' sounded less wooden than mr. woods up there.

It's too bad that he couldn't have gotten in a plug about his preference of clubs, i.e., "if it was up to me, we would all be playing persimmon and balatas". Can't remember after which tournament that he made that comment, but it would have been terrific if he had said it at this gathering! Given the difficulty in playing with those things, he would probably win even more than he does now!

He did something that he didn't have to do! He did it because he wanted too! He didn't get paid to do it! What is wrong with you people? Could any of you do better? Not....always passing judgememt on people! Tiger " Thank you" you did a good job!

This is what we should have expected from Tiger. It is a joke to expect stars like MJ or TIger to take a stand for minorities based solely on the fact of their acheivments. What right does anyone have to say that they owe it to their people or race. These comments are jokes. Leave TIger and Mike alone.

Tiger didn't 'bogey' the speech...though not a birdie....great par save :)....he's a golfer so i thought he did excellent and if i might offer a 'swing tip', Tiger could have added a more personal antidotal reminiscent about his father's service, such as his father's Vietnamese friend whom Tiger is named so as not to seem so stoic and bring out his dynamic personality and smile

Thank you Tiger, for your tribute to those who are currently serving and who have served this country in uniform.
A Presidential Inaugural for our 44th President is a fitting venue to recognize and applaud those who have protected and preserved our freedoms. A hole-in-one for the United States of America!

Jay - You have obviously consumed too much of the Eldrick Kool Aid. Tiger Wows Them? Give me a break! When you and the rest of the golf media can call them as they occur, rather than unjustly adding to the pedestal that you place the anointed second coming on, I might start listening to you. The sad fact is that you can't do it, nor can Brandle Chamblee and his band of boneheads on Golf Channel, nor can Jim Nantz, nor can Dan Hicks, nor Mike Terico.
The intellectual dishonesty that exists among you all is a joke. Why is the replay of the Eldrick's tee shot during the playoff for the PGA Championship at Valhalla that was kicked back into play NEVER, I REPEAT NEVER shown on television? I am guessing that it would reduce the legend a bit, don't you? If you get a chance, take a look at the replay and let me know if he won the tournament fair and square. He didn't. He also doesn't hold the consecutive cuts streak, nor will he EVER match Byron Nelson's record of eleven straight, nor will he touch Ben Hogan's record ot 36 TOP 5 finishes in 38 tournaments.
You all are just horny for a story and drunk on the fact that something that you think is so special is happening. Eldrick will never be half the CHAMPION that Jack Nicklaus IS.

Rico, I'd love to counter the many errors and misperceptions in your comment, but Tiger called and told me not to. And I always listen to Tiger. Gotta run; his dry cleaning ain't gonna pick itself up.

His speach was so choppy and bad it was insulting for him to be up there. He was not the only one who had to read something they didn't write. But please don't say he Wow'd anyone with that speach. I honestly thought he would be a better public speaker since he did go to Stanford!
He needs to hang out with someone that knows how to make a public appearance!

What was classy about him reading from a teleprompter??? seriously, I think anyone could have done the same job or better. I would rather see a regular Joe up there then Tiger or any of these celebrities!

My guess is that given his desire for perfection he won't be happy with his speech. Obviously hasn't read off of a teleprompter before but if he has to do this again, I am sure his agent will make sure he has a chance to practice with one. He wasn't awful, but our expectations are so high with everything he does that it fell well short of what most people believed he would show on stage. Loved the speech itself, look forward to watching him excel in the delivery in the future.
