Playtime's over. The Man is coming back.
Tiger Woods held his first formal press conference in half a year on Wednesday at the Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif. And his brief appearance, discussing everything from his knee (better than expected) to his return (imminent but not scheduled) to his caddy debacle (enough, please), cemented the truth, once and for all: like it or not, there's nobody who touches him, in golf or any other sport. As Yahoo! Golf Editor Michael Arkush put it in his recap column:
So it is in this sport, now more than ever, even more than was the case PT: Pre-Torrey. There is Tiger Woods and there is everyone else, and as long as everyone else makes the putts and collects the prizes, the PGA Tour will generate as much buzz as Fred Thompson did in the primaries.
Yes, we're big fans of Phil, Sergio, and AK. Yes, we want to see Padraig Harrington go at Tiger, and we want to see how Camilo Villegas steps up. But golf isn't the same game without Tiger. Love him or hate him, you can't deny the sport revolves around him.
Everyone's had six months to get ready. Time's almost up.
