Devil Ball Golf - Golf

Sergio Garcia has been spotted hitting himself in the knees with a hammer.

Phil Mickelson has been gnawing at the muscles in his forearms.

John Daly has been beating himself over the head with a three-wood.

What's wrong with these men? They've all figured something out: in 2008, you injure yourself, you win a major. (Well, not Daly; that's normal weekday behavior for him.) Tiger Woods blew out a knee, and he won the U.S. Open. Padraig Harrington's wrist crackled like an icy tree branch in January, and he won the British Open. I'm no pollster, but I'm prepared to declare this a trend!

Now, granted, two majors isn't much to go on. Statistically speaking, it's worthless. But then, what good are numbers anyway? I say it's all about the drama. And what's more dramatic than someone triumphing over adversity to win a major? TV loves it! The fans love it! Us cynical media types love it! It's flawless! (Thomas Bjorn there is already getting a jump on the competition.)

Picture this at next month's PGA Championship at Oakland Hills. It's Sunday, there's fog thick enough to hang your golf bag on, and nobody can see any of the golfers. Suddenly, a shape approaches the 18th green. Stumbling out of the fog, bloody and battered like Bruce Willis at the end of Die Hard, limping and holding himself up with his pitching wedge, his golf shirt in tatters, his visor askew, there to claim victory at last, is ...

... well, we'll have to wait and find out. But you've gotta admit, that's a hell of a setup, right? Who needs Tiger when you've got that kind of drama?

This is nothing new if you know your golf history. There is, of course the remarkable Ben Hogan winning majors (plural) after a devastating car accident that forced him to change his swing due to the lingering injuries. Maybe lesser known is Ken Venturi winning the U.S. Open while suffering from heat exhaustion (yes, a physician was called in before he was allowed to finish the 36-hole finale).

andytn88,do you think tiger faked a busted knee injury during the us open?i dont think so....coz you see, like tigers injury,if his busted leg is firmly planted during a swing and wih the rotating action, trust me it hurts like hell..or maybe you could ask and ortho-surgeon or a physiotherapist..so to explain this type of injuries...

for guys who know how to do the right golf swing will appreciate how it would really " hell" hurt when your knee is busted. Tiger just proved how he is really "mentally" strong in golf.

Mr.Campbell in April was drafted by the NFLto play for the Detriot Lions. Some so called fellow Naval officers got their panties in a bunch and came up with some back room polices at the last minute to justify their poor judgement and mismanagement of personnels.Caleb serving in the Reserves as a recruiter would of have been a major success. As a former Marine Recruiter I would of have use him as a walking billboard. We got it wrong in Iraq and we got it wrong with Mr.Campbell. When will we learn to leave well enough a lone. Tiger wasn't like in need of any extra attention. They pretty much keep him in the eye of things. So why would he have to fake a knee injury? So they could do another story on him?
Maybe he'll wait till he starts losing before he goes there! Right now, love him or hate him, unless one of you Tiger haters is gonna do a Nancy Crrigan on him, you'll have to continue to hate on the greatest golfer of your time.Nuff said
