Devil Ball Golf - Golf

Hey folks, welcome back for another Devil Ball podcast. This week, we're joined by a timely guest -- Bob Smiley, the author of Follow That Roar. Bob spent the first half of last season following Tiger Woods all over the world, watching every hole he played in his brief 2008. From Dubai to Augusta to Torrey Pines, Bob was there, and brought back a damn good story on not just Tiger's play, but the effects that Tiger has on the people around him. And since, as you may have heard, Tiger is back in action, the book is particularly timely now ... even if you already know how it ends.

Bob also writes his own golf blog at Fore Right Bob, and you can see the "sequel" of sorts unfolding there, as he followed Tiger at last week's Accenture return. How did it go? Well, it involved a cactus, a warm soda and a loss ... in short, it's not 2008 anymore. For anybody.

Enjoy the podcast, and be sure to grab a copy of Bob's book.

Just who needs another dose of Tiger hype. Not me. I didn't watch the podcast and the book will certainly not be on my shopping list. By the way I have nothing against Tiger the man and respect his accomplishments on the golf course-- but this overkill is preposterous !!!!!!

Travis, the guy is the most popular athlete on the planet. I understand your frustration, but believe me, there are millions of people who don't comment on blogs but do hang on his every move.
We'll try to give you a good spread of coverage, but like it or not, Tiger's not going away from anywhere.
You ought to give the podcast a listen, though. The book is very good, and the author felt exactly like you did when he started the project.

Speaking from the perspective of a fellow golfer (non pro) who lives in the same community I would have to say that Mr. Smiley captured the essence and humility of Tiger. If you are like most people who just watch the major tournaments, you would not comprehend the IMPACT of the man during his interactions with fans around the world. I have the distinct honor of knowing him as a person and thinks that he is the consummate professional who knows his place in history and is eager to share his triumphs with the rest of us. Don't stop hating though, cause people like you are needed as barometers of a persons success,

Of course we all have our own opinion, I am a tiger fan, but theres not to many golfers out there i am not a fan of. I love golf and I enjoy watching it. The thing that impresses me about tiger is the dedication it must take to keep his game above everyone elses and to balance a family and charity at the same time. He reminds me alot of Michael Jordan in the fact that everytime you see either one of them they have that look about them that stares deep in your sould and tells you" i am the best, i cant be beat and i will show you". and sure its ok not to like tiger thats what makes all of us who we are, but just to get rude about it shows that more than anything else that you are probably one of those type of people that our country can do without. GO TIGER, GO GOLF

I am not a golf fan.
When Tiger plays, I watch. If Tiger does not play, I do not watch.
I don't believe all of the hype; because there are a lot of great players.
    However, I watch Tiger.

To mucjh TIGER hype com-on people. For the people saying to much TIGER hype you better close off your ears for the rest of your life because anytime there is an athelete os superstardom quility there is always this much press and as long as that superstar stays on top of his game and or sprot he deserves everything said about him good or bad.... I GUESS all of you people that have heard to much forget about all the rest before TIGER.
JACK, ARMSTRONG, JORDAN, LEMIUX, GRETZKY, SHAQ, MAGIC, A-ROD, MGUIRE, BABE, ORR, TYSON, ALI, Just to name a few off the top of my head that were wrote about everyday for years at a time......

Your watching history being made as perhaps the greatest golfer/athelete of all time DEAL WITH IT. It's not everyday you can say you get to watch someone, anyone or team make history. Sit back and enjoy maybe someday you can tell your kids or grandkids hey i watched the greatest golfer ,person or team set and beat that all time record.
