Devil Ball Golf - Golf

Hey, how was your Thanksgiving break? Better than some folks', I'm guessing. Anyway, despite what the Evil Media would have you believe, there actually was golf news this weekend that didn't involve clubs meeting windshields. And here we go ...

While America was focused on a one-car accident, the rest of the world -- well, at least Ireland, Italy and Sweden -- focused on the Omega World Cup, the first event of its kind in the golf world. In the alternate-shot final event, brothers Francesco and Edoardo Molinari knocked off Ireland's Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell and Sweden's Henrik Stenson and Robert Karlsson. (The United States sent Nick Watney and John Merrick, and finished tenth.) Shame that ... other events had to overshadow this one. [PGA.com]

Congrats also to Sakura Yokomine, who won the Ricoh Cup this past weekend in dramatic fashion, and thus claimed the Japanese LPGA's money list title. [Mostly Harmless]

We already knew Padraig Harrington had an awful year on the golf course. It also appears that he had a terrible financial year as well, losing nearly $27 million on a technology firm's failure. [Local Knowledge]

Mike Weir, who's #10 on our best golfers of the 2000s list, went and got himself inducted into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame. (Yes, there is a Canadian Golf Hall of Fame. Stop giggling.) [AP via Yahoo! Sports]

Brad Faxon and Corey Pavin will be cashing in their one-year exemptions for being in the top 50 in career earnings to get a PGA Tour card for next year. Others may still use their exemptions, including Tom Lehman, Chris DiMarco, Stuart Appleby and Jesper Parnevik. [PGA.com]

Jay, what would you think if one day Canada produced the number one player in the world? We are very proud of what our players, male and female have contributed to the golf world in the both the pro and amateur rankings over the years. You never know if some young kid out there with a dream someday becomes the number one player on the planet.

Kelly -- 'twas a joke. And if that kid did become number 1, I'd be all over him/her. Especially if their spouse smashed their windows with a golf club.

I know it was a joke Jay. I may have had my tongue in cheek as I wrote that. And Jay, don't worry about the heat from the three articles you wrote in the last few days. It was a damned if you do damned if you don't type of thing. If you had kept quiet you would have been accused of covering up. Hope you had a good vacation.

Likewise, Kelly. Commenter heat doesn't bother me a bit. It's part of the deal -- if I'm going to put my name on these articles and take others to task, I can't get upset when people rage at me ... even if it is in misguided, misspelled English.
Sadly for those already sick of the Tiger story, there's more coming. Fortunately, we're NOT going all-Tiger; we'll have plenty of non-Tiger articles this week.

By the way Jay Busbee, at this time of year, we whack out car windows with hockey sticks not golf clubs. I mean don't you know anything about the ourside world?

Elin, the world waits on your every word. This is a tremendous burden, one of which you should not deal with lightly. If you love Woods as your action showed, be sure to reflect on how much you love and want to protect the children. It is not about the explosion of invasion Tiger's behavior has cost to the family, but more about how the children will view the way the two of you handle it in years to come. Reach for help, you have the resources to guide you.

thanks Jay, it is nice to hear what else is going on. That World Cup was great viewing too. The US had an awesome day out on the final day but just got off to a slow start. It was refreshing to see the Italians go crazy after they sunk the final putt too!

So what if tiger cheated it's his problem, every guy would if they had the chance to and don't tell me they wouldn't because that would be a lie. The people those pro's that talk bad about him or have something to say are just jealous of him and trying to get in the press for them self.
