Devil Ball Golf - Golf

Sometimes, the Yahoo! Sports Golf Blog will bring you searing insight into the world of golf. Sometimes, we'll bring you side-splitting satire that will have you thinking as you laugh. And sometimes, we'll just run John Daly video, like this shot of Daly hitting a golf ball off Kid Rock's beer can at the Buick Open Pro-Am in Michigan:

Mr. Daly, I just got a Strange Brew question in from Doug and Bob McKenzie. They were wondering if you would be willing to trade a couple of your full tees for equally suitable cans of empties they would prefer not to take back across the border from Detroit to Windsor. And second inquiry; could you write a new theme song for Hockey Night In Canada since CBC lost the rights to the sport nobody's watching anymore.

Golf is entertaining when John is playing. That is why he gets appearance fees in Europe. We need more like him.

The Daly freak show continues. John belongs in a carnival side show with the rest of the clowns.

Daly has made a few mistakes in the choices he's made (mainly the women) and
maybe wasted a few dollars here and there, but he's won two majors, which is two more
then most of the others on tour.

Very simple, Daly RULES!!!! Ever watch him play? He is having fun!! After all, isn't it supposed to be a game? We have allowed sports to become a religion and have set the standards for our athletes so high that we have seen the emergence of steroids and other performance enhancing drugs in teens!
I think it is refreshing to see a person who could just as easily be your drinking buddy at the local watering hole make it big and seemingly enjoy almost every minute of it. Daly has had many, documented, problems off the course, but over the years, it seems that the course is the one place where he is totally content and happy. Let him be and enjoy the ride along with him

This is just awful. John...............Please practice with real tees. I believe that is a stroke and distance penalty. Do not sign the card without assessing the strokes.

I can't argue that Long John marches to another beat. He might drink a little too much. He sometimes says
things he shouldn't. He probably does things he shouldn't. I was trying to think how I could defend his
actions, but after further thought I can't. I have played in John's golf tournament for the Boy's and Girl's Club
of Dardenelle where he raises thousands of dollars each year for that charity. Golf Writers usually put that
on the back page, if it is mentioned at all.

John having fun. Just like you and me on any given Saturday at our local course. Playing golf and drinking beer. Good for him, instead of all of those with a stick up theirs!!! People hate him because he can drink beer, smoke and be so out of shape and still shoot under par on the toughest courses, something we can only dream of. He's a free spirit and the real "Happy Gilmore" At least he actually loves the fans who come out to see him.

He is a fat sloppy addicted drunk who needs professional help. His days are numbered on the tour because no company wants to be associated with him. It is a shame, at one time he was a talented golfer, now he is nothing but a side show freak. Soon to be nothing more than a PGA footnote.

Sure nice to see JD's taste in friends is as bad as his taste in woman. I am sure Kid Rock is just the kind of guy for JD to associate with and teach him lifes essential lessons. Like how to change a spare tire on a moving trailer home so as not to get caught by Johnny Law, or how to piss away your income on Hooters girls.

Some of yall need to chill out!!! He is playing in a pro-am, which is meant to be fun!!! John is an awesome guy that has ran into some problems, but who are yall to judge him??? He is fun and entertaining to watch and if you don't like him, then don't watch him, even if it is for only 5 minutes of a 6 hours tournament!!!

What a waste of talent--lost his card and now needs sponsors exemptions which are going to disappear as time goes on. He is on his way out and that need not be so if he were to actually work at this game. What will he do when all the money is gone and no one will sponsor him?

Okay, it's entertaining, and I would sure love to share a beer with Daly BUT the fact that the PGA tour is tacitly encouraging him to go on acting like an unprofessional surely only hurts his golf game. I mean, what incentive does Daly have to get in shape, practice, and shoot low numbers? People like him if he shows up for the pro am and does something outrageous. In a way the PGA (and European tours) have created the beast that Daly has become. The man needs help, not encouragement to keep showing up to draw in a few extra fans with his antics, then bomb out after two days.
