Devil Ball Golf - Golf

Sometimes, the golf gods give you love in ways you can't possibly anticipate. When Phil Mickelson announced he'd be returning to the game next weekend at the St. Jude in Memphis, the first thing I thought was, "Great!" The second was, "Memphis ... St. Jude ... why does that sound familiar?" Then I completely forgot about it and went on to surf for bootlegs of Terminator: Salvation more golf news. After awhile, though, it hit me:

Memphis! That's where John Daly's coming back! Oh happy day!

Right on the heels of the Tiger Woods/Jack Nicklaus matchup, we get this Christmas present in June. Both Daly and Mickelson will be returning to the course next week at the St. Jude at Memphis, which is not just great news for the tournament -- it lost its title sponsor, Stanford Financial, earlier this year -- but for the game as well.

Love 'em, hate 'em, Daly and Mickelson combined provide the PGA with about 80 percent of the color (and the honestly interesting off-course stories) it generates in a given season. (Boo Weekley covers another 10 percent, Tiger 5 percent, and everybody else combines for the final sliver.)

Now, I could go and make all the easy jokes about Phil and Daly -- you know, lock up your barbecue joints and all that -- but I'll leave that to you, dear reader.

We'll be holding a live chat here next Thursday to yak about the two returns. And if the golf gods are feeling really frisky, perhaps they'll give us the matchup we're all craving. Sure, Tiger-Jack is wonderful, but a Daly-Phil pairing would be absolute can't-miss. Make it happen, golf gods!

The numbers for the St. Jude will be through the roof with these two returning. The PGA Tour will finally realize what a draw John Daly is. I wish them both luck, though for Phil to play well at the US Open it seems like he needs to miss the cut or at least play poorly, like he did before Northern Trust and The Masters. We have three weeks of very interesting golf coming up.

OH happy days!!! JD, Hefty, Lumpy and maybe my boy Colt all together.....awesome! add JB with his live chat. I'm happy as party sprinkles on a cup cake. Oh speaking of cup cakes, wings and other "weighing" issues. Would it be wise to start these these guys off the 1st tee or should we start two of them from the 10th?
    Looking forward to the tourney....

All you Daly fans make me laugh...What an utter waste of talent, and somehow you just want to see him waste some more. He'll drink to that!

Used to go over to Memphis for this tourney...of course, back then, it was in July. Could you imagine, Memphis in July. Old well, good for the St. Jude's. Of course, thank God Phil has had good news this week where his wife's health is concerned. I got couch time reserved for a good CBS telecast and great golf.

Hey unsatisfied have you looked at yourself, have you fulfilled what everyone expects from you, and I'm sure
there are several people who think you could have been a whole lot more than what you see in the mirror. Be
    careful on judging.

J.D. and Lefty in Memphis ! Ticket sales should rock now .Just bite the bullet and look the other way Finchem cause these guys draw the fans and provide more interest in one week at a PGA event than the entire FED-EX playoff system. The odd couple lives !!

Maybe their is something special happening here that we are all missing St Jude is the patron saint of the helpless and hopeless. John Daly is for sure a hopeless case. Of course the P.G.A. tour knows what a draw J.D. is people love to see someone hepless and hopeless and fighting the system. Get sober John and for sure you will draw more people the fans that want you to live. You would be a power of example to all. Your drunkin fans all belong in rehab with you..Myself I was a fan of yours and truley respected you. But you left being sober and showed the world once again that your best thinking got you were your at today..Most all know what will happen if you continue doing what your have benn doing in the past.. St jude help this child become a man again..

Quite frankly, the Memphis golf tournament will serve to give golf writers and bloggers something to write about for the first two days. After than, some (otherwise anonymous) guy will win the tournament. Daly and Mickelson will miss the cut. Daly because his skills have eroded and Mickelson because his are rusty. Get your blogs in before Saturday, because neither one will be around after Friday.

Again, i'm not a Phil fan but glad to see him back out there. I could use a Tiger/Phil pairing right about now.
OR, even better, Daly/Tiger........... oh man. 1 can only wish!

TdnDenver- you can't come with something sensible to say, so you take something that f-ing KILLS people and make a joke out of it. Ask yourself..."would I want someone saying this if my wife or Mom had breast cancer?" If you do, then carry on...you've got no chance.

If Tiger, Phil, and John Daly were in a threesome, and came to the 72nd hole of the U.S. Open tied for the lead, guess who the gallery would be rooting for. Tiger and his 14 majors? No. Phil, and his aw-shucks routine? Guess again. The Hooters man with his 4 ex-wives and his pink pants? You got it, Buckwheat- pay the man.

JD wore pink for Amy two weeks ago. WHY you ask?? because he's had family members who've had it... He was on Golf Central telling Kelly Tillman (sp) about it...... did you also know that 10% of ALL breast cancer victims ARE male?? Probably not........your not bright enough to even think that...
Ask yourself "Why am I such a poopyhead" tonight for the rest of us.......

It would be good to see J.D. get back in the mix. Golf needs a man like John that people can relate to.As for the haters,,maybe someday you will break a 100 and can go around telling everyone how you woulda, shoulda, coulda !!!

Thank the Lord for JD Phil and Tiger , have you been watching golf the last couple of weeks? Steve Stricker for crying out loud, if he smiled his face would crack! Whether you like or dislike flambouyant golfers, please save us from the David Toms and Charles Howells of the world, if they are who I have to watch on Sunday afternoon I'm going to do something more exciting like watch paint dry.

Well, ya'll. First off.\, I'm delighted Phil can play. I'm sure he would not if he felt he was needed for a few days. Second, Although I have nothing against John Daly, I don't think he and Phil are colorful in the same way. Third, those of you who say you aren't a Phil fan, but--. want him in the game, I think you are a fan, unless you are like I am about Tiger. I like him in the tournament so I can root against him. lol. And the idiot who joked about boobs is just that.
