Luke Donald is walking the walk at WentworthOn Wednesday at Wentworth, Luke Donald was interviewed as most big names were before the start of the first round of the BMW Championship. No matter your affiliation with the PGA Tour, even Tim Finchem would admit that the field at this week's European Tour event trumps anything the PGA Tour has put on since the Masters, and Donald was the favorite heading into the first round.

So Donald was asked the ongoing question about rankings, and where he currently sits among the rest of the world. His answers held a cool confidence that you don't get a lot from professional golfers.

"I think I'm the most consistent right now. I think I've proven that over the last few months ... "I don't know whether you choose someone who's won Majors or go with someone who has chances every week, but naturally my view is consistency pays.

"Does the way I've been playing make me best at the moment? Yes, I think so.

"And there's a good possibility I could take over anyway this weekend. A win here would definitely get the job done."

A lot of talk there from Donald, who hasn't finished out of the top-10 on the PGA Tour since late February, but you still have to play the game to match your talk. What did Donald do on Thursday? Just fire an opening round 64 to hold the lead in one of the most stacked non-majors of the year by two shots.

It was an incredible round of golf, but much of what you'd expect from Donald at this point, and it does prove that he is the best in the game. This generation isn't really about winning, because on any given week there are 70 players that could win, and another 50 that could if they played their absolute best. So it's all about being consistent, and keeping your name near the top of the leaderboard each week. That's what Donald is doing, and he's backing up his pre-tournament talk with one of the best opening rounds of the year.

Keep this up, and Donald will easily be the favorite heading into Congressional, and why shouldn't he be? He's the best in the game right now, and it doesn't seem like there's anyone else you could bring up in an argument.
