Hey, look who's back! It's former British Open champ John Daly, looking rested, ready and rocking his usual off-the-wall golf attire! And this time, he's recruited a running mate, Anna Cladakis, who's billed as his "partner." Whatever, she's wearing some of Daly's Loudmouth Golf gear of her own.
And so far, it's working. At this writing, Daly is -2, just three strokes off the lead, and eagled No. 7. Sure, there's a long way to go, but here's hoping Big John has it in him to make another run.
It's not like he hasn't done it before; the guy won the 1995 British Open in a playoff when he could easily have crumbled. But since then, he's fallen about as far as a guy can fall and still remain in the game of golf, between charging for autographs at a Hooters and smashing fans' cameras, among many other problems.
Still, give the guy credit -- he came back from his six-month suspension claiming he was a changed man, and so far I've got to say it certainly seems like he's got something good going on. If he can even make the cut, this weekend will suddenly get a whole lot more interesting.
