No matter where he goes, John Daly draws and demands attention. Right now, he's over in Hong Kong, and dispensing some classic Daly wisdom, like the fact that his weight loss over the last year or so has had a dramatic, and negative, impact on his putting:

"I have nowhere to put my elbows," he said via FOX Sports. "I used to be able to put my elbows right on my love handles and that was pretty good. Now they are all over the place."
As a result, Daly says, he's having all kinds of trouble with the flat stick, and he's now ranked 563rd in the world rankings.
Still, he's putting the "world" in "world rankings," having traveled from Turkey to Hong Kong spreading the Gospel of Daly far and wide. Say what you will about the guy, but he's not cruising on past glories.

Or is he? Local Knowledge questions why Daly doesn't attend Q School to get his tour card, and points out, correctly, that Daly is cruising on sponsor exemptions. Daly played in 18 tournaments in 2010 because of sponsor exemptions, and two more -- the British Open and the PGA Championship -- by virtue of being a past winner. Daly is now up to 90 events without a top-10 finish; the last time he did so was a 2005 WGC-American Express Championship loss to Tiger Woods in 2005. As Local Knowledge contends:
He no longer deserves his free passes, and remains a flight risk when he does get them -- he's withdrawn from events 17 times in the last five years, three times in 2010 alone, including the PGA Championship, when he chose not to return on Saturday morning to complete his second round when he had no chance of making the cut. A shoulder injury, he said, diagnosed as a torn rotator cuff that did not prevent him from playing in the Wyndham Championship a week later.

Ouch. Still, as long as there's demand for Daly -- and there always will be -- why even bother with Q School? Just show up and play where you're invited.
