Devil Ball Golf - Golf

You know we're in a real horror show of an economic meltdown when Tiger freakin' Woods is getting laid off.

General Motors, which as you may have heard is having a bit of trouble making ends meet, has announced that it will end its sponsor partnership with Tiger Woods as of the end of this year. Naturally, GM wants you to know that all of this has been in the works for months, that it has nothing to do with GM begging for its share of a $25 billion bailout, and Tiger just wants to spend more time with his family, and this is a normal reevaluation of sponsorship and OH MY GOD! Do you realize that GM is cutting ties with the top commercial spokesman on the planet? The auto industry is SCREWED! Run for the hills, people!

Still, the separation does have its upsides. For one thing, Congress won't waste time during bailout proceedings asking GM if they could get a photo with Tiger, like they did when Roger Clemens was on the Hill. And for another, Tiger won't have to keep re-using excuse after excuse to skip Buick-sponsored tournaments. If there are any more of those, of course.

Good thing Tiger's got that golf thing to fall back on. That's one less job President-elect Obama will need to find.

atthehop - why are you reading stories about a sport you have so much disdain for? are you that bored, or was it your reading assignment for the day designed to someday get you to interact somewhere above a kindergarten age level?

Tiger has the money to bail out the auto industry,,, they should have gone to him before the government.

I can't wait for Tiger to get back in action. Time to resume the major chase. I'll never forget this year's US Open though.

Tiger Woods will be better off with a Japanese or European car maker. His golf bag would look better with Mercedes, BMW, or Lexus. Nice going GM!!

WOW! now TIGER does not have to explain why he is driving a MERCEDES? and not a "BUICK" or come up w/ a laime excuse why he had to miss his sponsors tournaments time after time. I think HONDA would be perfect for him w/ his asian background & sensibility.

Well... it was always weird to see Tiger promote Buick vehicles. It was a bad match because most of us picture him in a Ferrari or Lamborghini. I'd say he's done pushing autos for a few years - it seems he likes to stick with US products - and US autos have some catching up to do.

Tiger is laughing his butt off. I'll bet he doesn't have to return his company plane like the big three had to. He is the most stable "company" in the country right now. If he decided to go public and offer stock in himself, he would top the market and become the richest man to ever walk the face of the earth. Did anyone ever believe he drove a Buick by choice anyway? Who will they get to be their spokesperson next, 50 cent ?

Tiger does not need GM any more than I do. If he spends the time that was wasted on doing commericals for GM & puts it on the pratice range. I can only feel sorry for the rest of the PGA. Tiger will play more on the tour, which means more wins & money for him & his family. Tiger can play 10 tour. a year which will be enough for him to win the player of the year each year.

I hardly think this is bothering Tiger.. Right now, CEO's all over the world are salivating at the chance to have Tiger
carry their company's logo on the bag...Tiger's bag get's more airtime than most PGA tour players...

Let me get this straight. The CEO's are cutting costs by FIRING THE WORKER BEES that give them their outrageous saleries, bonuses, parties, all their "its all about me stuff". But cutting advertising their product, backing projects that let people know they have a product to sell, and giving back to the communities...BUT....GOD forbid they CUT THEIR SALERIES, JETS, BONUSES!!! I do believe and I have seen when a boss doesn't do his job he is let go.....not bonused.

The bottom line is that you have to spend money to make money. Tiger must have increased GM's profits....otherwise, GM would have called it quits long ago. This has EVERYTHING to do with the bailout bill!

Golf is about as exciting as a dead man's wake. Any game where a woman can play as well as a man shouldn't even be on the Sports pages. Play a real sport. Let's see Tiger hit a Major League fastball, then he can be called an athlete.

GM made so many bad decisions already. This decision is one of few right ones but is already too late. GM should concentrate on the quality of making a car and well spend on the business strategy. Tiger may be good at GOLF, but definitely not good image of other business. I, at least, won't buy it because of Tiger on the ad.. However, I will definitely buy GM car if President Bush is on the ad..
