Five to watch @ The Viking Classic

Each week, Five To Watch breaks down the most significant players and storylines for the upcoming weekend's tournament. We're not saying these guys will win, or that you should pick them for your fantasy team; we're just saying you ought to keep an eye on them. You never know what might happen. Today, we run down the field in one of the year's final regular-season tournaments.

John Daly: Only eight of the world's top 100 players in the field -- and none of the top 25 -- are at the Viking Classic, which means that all eyes will be on Mr. Daly. As they always are. Since the tournament is in Mississippi, this is home turf for Daly, who's trying to make yet another career rebound. But since his most recent fall post-British Open wasn't nearly to the depths of his previous descents, maybe we can hope that his next rise will be that much higher.

Chad Campbell: Outside of a second-place tie at the Timberlake, we haven't heard a whole lot from Chad since he fell in the playoffs at the Masters, but here's a chance for him to run the table on a weak field. He's not one of the guys trying to get his card for 2010, so he can relax and play the kind of game that could triumph over his more nervous counterparts.

David Toms: The highest world-ranked player at this tournament, Toms has been turning in reliable top-10 performances all season long. And like Campbell, he's got the chance to ride herd on the field. Plus, like Daly, he's in his region, being a Louisiana boy and all.

Rickie Fowler: Everybody's All-American tees it up again with the chance to get into the top 125 and skip right over Q School. If you're not a big fan of the all-Tiger, all-the-time style of broadcasting, you're probably not going to want to watch FowlerTV this weekend. But you'll miss out on some fine golf.

Michael Sim: I'm calling it here -- Sim/Fowler is going to be the Tiger/Phil of the 2000-teens. Am I putting too much pressure on these two cats? Sure I am. But if I'm right, I can point to this post as proof. And if I'm wrong, nobody'll remember it anyway. It's flawless!

All right, you're up. Who are your picks for the weekend? Go!

Tournament favorite right now seems to be Mother Nature. Maybe they can get in 36 holes and it seems like 54 will be the maximum based on the conditions and the forecast.
