Each week, we focus on five compelling players at the week's tournament. They may not be the best, or even in line to win, but something is drawing us their way. Today, we'll show you five players who've got a good angle on the Accenture. And no, you-know-who isn't one of them. We've heard enough about him.
The course: The brand-new Dove Mountain course at the Ritz-Carlton in Marana, Arizona. The course is Nicklaus's first in the Tucson area since La Paloma opened in 1984.
Steve Stricker: Stricker is quietly putting together a strong early season, and he drills birdies at a three-to-one ratio over bogeys. He's not the most accurate cat on the course, but he's in every single hole -- which is exactly how you need to play this week.
Boo Weekley: He's one of the most accurate in the game off the tee, and he's also got the ability to pile up birdies. His combination of steadiness and recklessness sets him up well for match play.
Ian Poulter: He's one of the most unpredictably talented rising stars in the game, and he could well put on a strong five-day run. He's got the mindset for multiple equivalents of Sunday-afternoon back nines.
Pat Perez: He's a 16 seed unlike any other, riding high on a confidence that the usual 16-seed Sister Marys of the Poor can't even begin to summon up. And he's playing Padraig Harrington, who's yet to replicate the kind of success that got him a pair of majors last year.
Anthony Kim: It's his first Accenture, but he's got a reasonably light route to the Elite Eight, at the very least. And he's got some experience with big-game match play, as Sergio Garcia can attest after his Sunday Ryder Cup waxing at Kim's hands.

Boo Weekley---Could be tough !
Ian Poulter ----Unpredictable --- says it all .
Pat Perez----Not with these !
Anthony Kim---Not at his best right now .
In any case I'll stick with Geoff Oglivie and Soren Hansen---both former winners of this event . I don't think Tiger will go all the way first time out, but could make the final eight.......

I'm almost dreading the coverage. Those pathetic announcers fawning over Tiger's every move...is anyone else on the course? And what will the cameras show us? Rather than the usual shots of the blue sky or boats cruising along the waves (is this a bass tournament or golf?), we'll see Tiger sipping water, Tiger eating a snack, Tiger walking down the fairway (was that a hitch in his step we just saw?), Tiger stepping out of the porta-potty. Wasn't any other golfer making a shot at that instant?
Don't get me wrong, Tiger's shot making is spectacular and exciting to watch. But it's the camera work and the blather that will make me keep the remote in my hand.

Oosthuizen over McIlroy (Oost playing very well this year)
Pampling over Villegas (Pampling took out Rose last year and i splaying very good golf right now)
Perez over Harrington (a lot fo people like this upset, I do too for the same reasons)
Hansen over Furyk (Furyk hasn't advanced out of the first round in 3 of the last four years and lost as a high seed)
Other (smaller) "upsets" I like:
Katayama over Immleman (Trevor missed the cut badly last week and not playing to form yet, the two played each other last year and Katayama lost 1-down)
Sabbatini over Jimenez (Rory playing like a top player again this year, hold this event in 6 months and he's the 6-seed)
Romero over Leonard (Romero is the rising star here, look at Leonard's record in this event prior to last year and it's not so impressive)

in his career ! ! Enough said ! Hopefully someone NEW wins it all for

If Ernie Els plays like he did today he will be very tough. Tiger had it easy today but as # 1 he earned that gift. I think he will be around on Saturday but I just don't think he can win 2 on that day.
It can only get better !!!
