Each week, Five To Watch breaks down the most significant players and storylines for the upcoming weekend's tournament. We're not saying these guys will win, or that you should pick them for your fantasy team; we're just saying you ought to keep an eye on them. You never know what might happen.
Tiger Woods: I learned my lesson the last time I tried to leave Tiger Woods off one of these -- everybody wants to watch Tiger Woods, love him or hate him. So there you go. Is there anybody else in golf -- heck, in sports -- who's a favorite every time he shows up to play? Nope. And this year, all Tiger has done is rank in the top 10 in every single tournament he's played save his first, the Accenture. So, yeah, keep an eye on him.
Kenny Perry: As defending champion, he gets the nod here. Remember, this time last year he was starting his surprising run that would vault him onto the Ryder Cup roster. Now, he's chastened by a Masters collapse but every bit as strong golfwise. Betting against him isn't a good idea, even with Eldrick in the field.
Vijay Singh: The Big Fijian is showing every singh -- er, sign -- that he's back in the form that won him an eight-figure check last year. And that's bad news indeed for the rest of the field; having Tiger and Perry to look up to is rough enough, but now add Vijay to the mix, and you've got three huge hurdles to vault.
Geoff Ogilvy: After a hot start to the season in which many, including me, picked him as the man to beat this year, Ogilvy has cooled off somewhat and hasn't thrown the same scare into the field as he did back in the springtime. But a nice romp here could be just the trick he needs to keep his game at that elite level.
Camilo Villegas: Another of the stars of 2008 who's having a worse-than-expected 2009, Villegas could use this course to get his game righted and his ranking improved. He played solid golf at the Skins Game on Wednesday, taking more skins than anybody save Tiger; we'll see if that carries over to the weekend.
All right, your turn. Who's your man this weekend? Fire away!
